Is there any way to tell from casting numbers if my iron duke is original to my scrambler. Did they cast serial numbers in the block? Or date codes? It's been re painted at some point and wanted to verify originality.
Just found your unanswered question.
There is a ID code on the D-side rear top of the block. The two character code is 4p or 4z. If the engine was built in GA or TN it will have a number stamped on the D-side rear block flange as well.
Hope this helps.
Is there any way to prove it was in my jeep from the factory though?
This implies to me your concern about a potential buyer knowing you swapped out the original engine.there's also a rebuilt iron duke I found but wasn't sure if anyone would be able to tell it wasn't original.
If your never going to sell your 8 I doubt anyone would know if it's anything other then original. I think your good there.no intent to ever sell my 8. Just don't want anyone to be able to tell if it's not the original one.
Even if you like the 4-popper. You will LOVE an AMC V-8.
IMHO-go '8'. You will need a tranny stronger than that SR4.
