not sure if this is the right place or if we can even post these posts, but...

I was ogling CJs and found this... while I'm not in a place to buy a CJ right now, this is what I would to love to have when it is time... what would be a realistic price assuming everything is as advertised?

if it is as clean as it looks in the pics and mileage is real,I have seen them bring as much as 15,000..That is a lot more than I would personally pay but ones like that are getting rare

It's not 100% original. Looks good, but what engine, Transmission , and Transfer Case ? What condition are these? Take a really good look underneath. You can have a very good looking top half and the bottom be . My guess would be that this has been well taken care of. For price, if you plan to do nothing to it OK. But, I would rather buy one for around 5k or 6k and spend the other 6k in making the CJ what I wanted. Like seats that look more like Jeep seats and not Chevy seats. It's a matter of opinion and what you want to pay for. Just tread lightly, check carefully, before buying. Rod

You could buy a Jeep for 12K and have to spend 2K on it for whatever reasons.
You could buy a Jeep for 5K and have to spend 2K on it for whatever reasons.

My money is on the 5K Jeep.

Let somebody else pay for originality and nostalgia.

Thanks all... I can see the beauty in a $5k Jeep as well...

BTW- when I get my Jeep, it will be an "instead of a $40k JKU" Jeep... So I'm not afraid to spend a little bit to get what I want... Also, it will be a mostly daily driver...

Be afraid, be very afraid. It might be in tip top shape but the spedo is mechanical so who knows the truth. (Does an 1982 spedo go above 99,999? Not sure but my 1978 doesn’t) The only thing that might give me some comfort as to the true mileage is if it has meticulous maintenance records that are verifiable, such as the dealership; something that would be impossible to fake. Even if all is straight I think $12K is a little cheeky.

I’m also a little concerned about having to do head work with only 55K on the clock s by 1982 engines had been upgraded for unleaded fuel. One other thing; "Got Rust?"

Any jeep running is worth 4k and I can buy them in any condition for under 7k. Be advised you are buying a non collectable (so sad but true) vehicle that have a history of being abused and left out in the rain uncovered.

Nice Jeep, but not $12k nice. Maybe $7-8K.

Why would it need engine work, new seats, and new paint with 55K on it IF it was taken care of?

Either has a T-4 or T-5 , so that's not good. Would want to look for rust too.

Nice looking Jeep, but like I said, not 12K nice.

Around here that would bring @$8K if I had to guess, maybe less.

Honestly I hate this. The Jeep CJ's are still fairly inexpensive to buy and use. The last thing we need is for them to catch on with the big money snob crowd. Look at the poor Land Cruiser, once a great vehicle, now only a big money snob can afford one and they have become garage queens. Keep the Jeep CJ dangerous, keep it unpopular, keep it affordable for an average guy to be able to hunt or simply get out without a $500 car payment hanging over his head. The new Jeeps are probably decent vehicles, ugly, too soft, but decent vehicles that I'll NEVER be able to afford.

Add the 67-77 Broncos to that list too. Used to see them everywhere in the late 80's-early 90's for $2-3K (Good comparable CJ's were $5-6K) and now you can't get one that isn't a basketcase for a reasonable amount.

Thats the truth. And there are very few Cjs Id pay $12k for. And 95% of those have a 103 in wheelbase.
