a disaster. These pictures is how it looked when I brought it home. It was actually running and driveable. Well kinda, if you didn't mind knowing that it may not start again once you arrived wherever. Currently, it is in a severe state of de-construction (those pictures coming soon). It doesn't even run as matter of fact I have all the wires jerked out. Anyway, so here it is, for ya'll to make fun of or offer ideas or encouragement or you can tell me I'm a idiot and the rig is past it's prime. It wouldn't be the first time. BTW, for the record I am NOT a first rate mechanic; just average with a wrench. We will see how it turns out....sooner or later. Dan

OK so you have seen the outside. Here's the engine compartment. It started out as a once proud Laredo ; rolling of the line in Toledo as # 50412. Begin thinking the theme music for the 6 million dollar man....we have the technology to rebuild her..make her stronger..faster..sexier..than before. If nothing else I'll sacrifice a virgin and cut the head off a chicken. More later. Dan.

Well I've seen alot worse, including mine when I got it.
All I can say is, take your time and take lots of pics as you go.
Enjoy the rebuild.:chug:

If it runs and drives, then it isn't a disaster, a disaster is when you have to rebuild the back half of the frame because you thought it was cool that someone "gave" you a frame and it came from New England... then you get a body for "cheap" and you decide that it is even too far gone for you to fix, so you nickel and dime yourself to death rebuilding this and that and buying more parts.

Here is you... a complete running Jeep with from what I can tell, most of the parts there to rebuild it... YOU SIR ARE VERY LUCKY AND FORTUNATE!

Good luck. It is a piece of cake... as long as you are stubborn enough to not let it beat you...

OK, I found some more time to continue with tearing stuff off. Found out that one of the knobs for the windshield would not unscrew as it should. The back up nut was not secured to the frame. So out came the die grinder. I ground thru the threads on the knob and chunked it. Then took a washer and nut and welded them together, then marked the hole where I would cut some gouges with the die grinder. I put the new back up nut assy behind the frame and welded it in and smoothed off the weld build up and shot some cold gal. on it. Here are the pictures.

BTW, ya'll are right it certainly could be worse. I really envy those of ya'll who go all out and down to the frame. I would like to but time is a severe enemy for me. I'm on call every weekend and always get called out. I'm not complaining but it's difficult to remember where I start, finish, and order parts for. Carry on!

OK derf...look what followed my home yesterday. I give 6 benjamins for it so I figured why not? I'm gonna put my cancer cure project on a shelf in the garage and devote my energy to breathing new life into this Jeep. Mankind will have to wait.

There isn't much rust on it to speak of. This is a 89YJ tub, I intend to rhino/herculine the bottom of the tub itself, after it gets a pass by the sandblaster.I will also line the inside before the install on the frame. But I will need some type of liner that is tintable and holds up well to UV. Put rust inhibitor down the frame. The swing tailgate has GOTTA go. Move the gas fill to the right side. The jury is still out on the rollbar. It may stay it may leave. I also am thinking about recessing the taillights into the body, but then I need a way for the back up lights to be visible. I think the jeep will be better off down the road by switching tubs now. At least I won't have the shoulda, woulda, coulda's. P86

The new body looks to be in pretty good shape.

Keep after it. I had the "I should do it now while I have the chance or I'll regret it" bug back in 2004 when I pulled my CJ apart. I'm just now getting it back together.

roflmao....I took my 1st CJ apart down to the frame in 2004 and then went to Iraq for a year...I returned on a Thursday afternoon and realized that I had told my wife to sell my daily driver while I was gone. I was off for the next 4 days...so I slept about 6 hrs total in the next 4 days and put the entire thing back together, so that on Tues I would have something to drive back and forth the 4 miles to work...lol...thank god I hadn't done anything serious to it, before I left.

dude...quick is an understatement...imagine have to get up and go run 6 miles after 6 hrs of sleep in the last 4 days...i was tired for what seemed like weeks..but those who knew about the jeep were dumbfounded..lol...and no power tools btw..lol

OK, ya'll here are some pictures of how the sandblasting and bedliner went. Whew! I glad this part is over.:chug:

But wait!..there's more. So you can see that I used the regular 'ol off the shelf Herculiner for the bottom. For the inside of the tub I used the U Pol Raptor (tintable). Stuff set up hard as a preachers _____. The only thing you have to watch out for is the bottle they provide to mix in doesn't have enough volume if you mix the paint above 10%. I removed AMC 150 ml from each bottle and did some math and mixed the activator at a 3:1 from there. Just the facts, 600 ml in the bottle 200 ml of activator, then I added AMC 150 ml of my paint. Eventually, I took the parts I had removed, put 'em back into a bottle and mixed 'em to spray. So nothing was wasted.
I did sandblast the inside but forgot the picture. I primered with a self etching paint and then used ear plugs to fill the appropriate holes. Once I get my hardtop stripped down I am gonna shoot it as well. I will also shoot the spare tire rack.

Damn that looks awesome man, I really like the tan colored bed liner. Did you do the outside too or is that primer/paint.

Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk

No, that is primer from the PO. Eventually, the outside will be a royal/navy metallic. Hence, that's the reason the firewall was painted blue. I got a trick idea for the hood but it's not time for that yet. Got other things to fix first.

Keep up the good work! You planning to run a YJ gas tank since the hole is on the opposite side, or are you going to relocate the hole?

The plan is to buy the aluminum corner protectors and use them to mark for the CJ tank fill location. I'm also gonna keep the CJ tailgate. I mean, come on man, it's stamped with the Jeep logo. Kinda thinkin' about recessing the taillights. I also will keeping the CJ rollbar. The YJ does have a nice radio antenna mount though.

A question for the group. I would like to set the tub on some type of rolling cart/frame that makes it easy to work around and move around. Anyone got any decent ideas or pictures?
