The paint guy is driving me crazy! I'm still waiting on him to get done. Anyone wanna help bury a body?! Oh, wait I have a bunch of empty crab traps. Nevermind.

you better be getting a discount on that paint!

OK, so gotta make hay while the sun shines! So I sandblasted and put UPol Raptor on the hard top. Here's the before, during, and final results pictures. I tried to take it all the way down to white, but I ran out of sand, patience, and shade. Believe it or not I used 800# of #5 sand. If I had consulted some expert I may have used a different sand; plus my sand pot may leave a little to be desired. Anyway...

For those of you who choose to use the TINTABLE version of the Raptor liner make sure there is enough room to add all the ingredients into the bottle to mix. I took 150ml (5 oz) out of each bottle and set it to the side and later reused it for my final spray shots. It takes a little math but it pays off in the end.

Ok, so I couldn't stand it I had to go pull the stuff off the glass. Here's the end result. I like it! Now I gotta go mow the yard.

Looks like a nice job.:chug:

Our stuff is finally in the work area/paint booth or in the way. Mr. G, the painter and one man gang, told me once he gets the parts in the way, he'd get 'er done. Dropped in Saturday morning and he was head down and elbows up. Looks like some work is finally happening. He's old and works by himself but he does BA work. I feel like I'm waiting for the ketchup to pour out from a Heinz bottle. Anticapation..

Got the call yesterday from my bro' that the seats were ready for pick up. Woohoo! By Gawd, progress is being made. Here they are in all their glory. Looks pretty dang good for, well..... maybe I shouldn't say how much. It cost me 165.00. Uh, my labor force is a captive group down at the state correctional instution. Yep, used prison labor. I wasn't gonna open 'em up until I needed them for the tub, but I didn't see no harm in opening up one for a picture.

Nice! I'd like a pair just like that but in dark charcoal. I really want seats I can just sponge off or towel dry if they get rained on!!!

Did someone say sponge? :)

Seriously how do we get in on keeping some of our more upstanding citizens busy? My Driver's seat needs some attention...do they paint?

Awesome job!

Well, I was killin' some time on Craigslist and low and behold I stumbled across an extraordinary deal. I found a set of original chrome wheels for a CJ for 140.00. So I scooped 'em up. Here's a couple of pictures from yesterday.

I pulled the gas tank off since the thing has been sitting for so long without being ran. It was nearly all water, thanks ethanol loving politics. Is there a way to tell if this a 20 gallon tank by looking at the nonenclature? I guess I'll buy a new skid plate while I'm here, but I'd like to know the tank size.

Savannah was on hand to watch over the work and play barmaid.

I should start picking up some painted pieces today sometime, when I do I'll take some picts.

Did those come with CJ center caps on them?
I don't want to bust your bubble here, but it is a bit hard to tell from the pictures, but those look like points on the wheel triangles and Laredo Style Wheels usually were more rounded than pointed... again, hard to tell, but was wondering if those might have been aftermarket wheels with CJ inserts on them.

Either way for $140 those are a good deal for 4 tires that hold air, have tread, and aren't rusty.

Craig

Well that would be my bad! It's not the first time I have been wrong. I had it backards in my feeble brain, thanks for the correction. No they didn't have center caps, but the pictures I'll take later today will show some caps. I bought 5 Pro Comp for the other 86 CJ7 I'm working on and I intend to steal 2 from that set for the back wheels on this one. From a distance they will look like they belong on there and after they get scratched and dirty, only we'll know and I'm not telling. Thanks for the info I'm sure it'll help some other guys.

Uh...so I didn't take the pictures I intended to. So much for good intentions. One ticket to hell please. But, I did do something good today I built some mounting bolts for a hi-lift jack. I used a 5/8" line bolt and nuts. Made a hole through the bumper and tack welded everything together. Then I drilled a hole for a lock. Take a look and tell me what ya' think.

in pic 2 there is an original CJ chrome wheel, good work so far, where's the tub?

Enjoying you're build... I have always loved the 86 laredos... If I get another project it's either going to be an 86 Laredo (black) and restored to original or an 60's era 5... Keep up the good work

Look what followed me home yesterday! Woohoo! Gonna take a day or two off on vacation and spend some time working on the jeep. I don't know the actual color name but it is the blue used by Toyota on the FJ cruisers. The 2012 Jeeps have a blue that is close. I junked the old skid plate for the fuel tank and replaced it with a galvanized version and then Herculined it. I also picked up a rebuilt power steering gearbox. Here are some pictures you can expect to see some progress this week. :chug:  :D :)

BTW, yes I know there are U'bolt nuts missing. I gotta go to town for bolts to mount the tub. I'll pick those FINE threaded bastages up at that time.

:)86,

Look-in Good...........keep the pictures coming.

OK, guys just got a shower. Whew! Worked hard today, didn't really get as much done as I would have liked but I made sure every T was crossed and I was dotted. I am certain nothing was left out at this time, now tomorrow...it's open for anything. No laudable undertaking can start without first being properly prepared. Now pay attention YJ to CJ tub converters, there will be a test afterwards.

This is were I hooked the chain to lift the tub. It was unbalanced, heavy towards the drivers left. However, it was not difficult to handle. We lifted the tub and rolled the chassis back under from the front. These are the holes used for the seat belt mounts.

IF you use the Crown rubber body mounts, beware it is possible for the sleeve to break off of the flange. I put the flanged end in a vice and used a Port a Band to cut off the excess (this is not optional, the sleeve is appx. 1/4" to long). I barely even touched one of these pieces and the &*%$ fell apart. I spot welded 'em back together with the Mig and carried on.

IF you elect to take off every hinge, bracket, support that is visable from the outside then be prepared to either use all stainless hardware or do some kinda touch up paint on the bolt heads. IF you change the tailgate mod and want the drop down CJ gate, before you tighten down the body mount this is the time to slip in the captured thread/nut bar for the hinge, otherwise you'll be coming back loosening up some stuff to accomplish this feat.

The last pic is a freebie. This is the time to add a pigtail for a trailer if you remember, the pict don't show it but it is there. Also if you notice the left body mount is further left on the crossmember than the right. The right is correct, the nut lined up perfect. My jeep has had collision damage and the frame is slightly out of square. So I had to "adjust" the position of the left body mount. Tomorrow we talk more about body mounts, their supports and how to install.

Here's the test, What kinda beer do we favor? Any questions? I'll grade the test tomorrow.

Shoulda took a picture of the filth that covered me at the end of the day. I bet 10 pounds of sweat, dirt and funk went down the drain.
