The plan is to buy the aluminum corner protectors and use them to mark for the CJ tank fill location.

That's a great idea! It saves you the trouble of welding metal and using bondo to fill the YJ fuel hole while giving you a template to cut the CJ hole.

Brilliant! :chug:

After I put on the aluminum corner guards I'll come back with some Herculiner and dab on from the under side into the orginal gas fill hole in the YJ body. This way it will/should/stop some of the water and grit from becoming trapped between the two pieces hopefully prevent a potential trouble spot. This will be our little secret.

Mr. Certifiable-that looks just about like what I was conjuring up. I think I'll make mine a little higher or use bigger wheels. I bow in you presence and give you thanks.

Now that I am at this point I need to make hay while I have momentum and "get er' done".

Well today's goal was to get the cart made and the tub unloaded. It's Miller Time now. I pushed the cart under the trailer and put the firewall end on two furniture dolly's. Stepped to the back and picked it up and walked to it's resting position. Got on the trailer and picked up the front and more or less just kinda pushed the cart backwards and put the front end down when I ran outta trailer.

You can see the PO's attempt at some body repair. No work jeep work tomorrow, got other things on the agenda. But at least I got it where I can start to goof around with it.

Not a problem, someone once showed me a picture of what they did and I built that as it would fit my needs... a little higher is a good idea as well... right now I am using it for the Jeep Scrambler Frame I am working on...

So it is really multi-purpse... I have had 3 tubs on there, a frame, axles, it really comes in handy getting from one garage to another with the bigger stuff.

Good luck on the body work.

OK, I am back in the jeep rebuild project not so fresh off a major project at work. Hopefully, some of that luck will continue into the jeep.

We did manage to get the tub off without to much trouble over the weekend. :D While I'm here it's time for the brake lines to go and re-bush the springs. I also need a new rear crossmember anyone know where to get a good quality one at a fair price?

OK, so it was way late and dark to work on the jeep when I got home so I went fishing instead.

I made a couple of templates to transfer the ECU and clutch rod holes to the YJ firewall. Didn't do too bad on the one, but the other got a little bit off; however the boot will cover up the error.

Here is a picture of the inside of the diamond plate corner protector. I reached thru the back side of where the fuel fill is on the CJ and marked all the holes with a Sharpie. Now I just need to cut out and drill for all the CJ placements.

Looking Good!

OK, the rear crossmember has been welded in. New bushings in the rear springs. Front springs later this week.

OK, OK, I know. More pictures soon getting ready to send everything to the paint shop in a week or two. Got one more thing to do. Stay tuned.

 Waiting on this hood thing you mentioned...................

We are doing a test fit to pull some measurements. It's been so long that some of you may have forgot we are doing a YJ tub to CJ frame swap. I'm not for sure yet, but it looks like where the body mounts to the frame on the rear crossmember for a YJ are wider than the CJ. I knew the mounts in front of the rear tires needed to be moved. I welded in a new crossmember for a CJ and I'm thinking if I had bought one for a YJ I may have saved myself some uh-ohs'. Anyway, I got the paint guys narrowed down to 2. I'll speak with them this week and see who can get me in quickest and get the parts loaded and moved to the shop.

Meanwhile, I will be installing all new brake lines and working on the front springs.

I picked mine up from the roll bar mounts behind the seat. It was way too tail heavy. You seem to have the same friends over that I do. I see one sitting in the bed. :) Thats a nice color blue by the way.

Well it's been dropped off at the paint shop. These will the last of the ugly duckling pictures. WooHoo!

Ya'll don't give up on me. My paint guy is very "experienced" and doesn't work off my time table. I guess one day, when I'm much more experienced myself I'll be doing more fishing. I just had to wait my turn in line; he had other jobs before I got there. The equalizer valve would have been a SOB with the tub on. Heck is was a PITA as it was.

Gonna get a pressure washer and wash off all the grime, grease, and gunk before the final assembly. The steering gear box is also on the hit list at this time. Here are some recent picts. BTW, I went on and took out the radiator core support for two reasons: 1-it will be easier to get to the steering gear box. AND 2-I wouldn't want anyone saying I did a half *** job on the rebuild. LOL.

I don't think you will have to hear anybody say you did a half @$$ job. Nice work

Good news is my paint man has started sanding and ordered the paint; bad news is he ain't done with it yet. But, in the meantime I have been busy with other things. Just for a peace of mind while it was down to almost bare bones, I went ahead and drained the differential's on both ends. What came out was better than I expected. New gear oil and gaskets and knowing what's in there...priceless.

Also dropped in some more new bushings. In my spare time, I went ahead and picked up a power steering gear box, however, I forgot about the boot and spring, so I gotta order it tomorrow. Here are some pictures for fun.

No workie on it this weekend we got a BBQ cookoff to do for Shriner's Hospitals. Coming soon, pictures of the before on the seats, they are headed to the shop this week sometime. Stay tuned.

The paint guy is driving me crazy! I'm still waiting on him to get done. Anyone wanna help bury a body?! Oh, wait I have a bunch of empty crab traps. Nevermind.

OK, so I did pressure wash the frame and rattle can it. Plus the tranny got new lube.
