I hate the T-5 tranny, this thing is a dog on any kind of incline. Looks like I need to get my T-18 ready sooner than later.

If I stay in 4th she does pretty good. If I use 5th I have no power whatsoever, cant even pass anything.

What is you axle gear ratio?
My T-5 lets me idle around the parking lot in 1st or run 75 on the interstate.
Also, the 4th gear in a T-18 and the 4th gear in the T-4 /5 is the same. 1:1

usually only use 2-4th but i seem to have power...have 4:10s w/33s... i've had it as hi as 75-80 on the highway....

It's not the tranny you need a lower axel gear.

:agree:

I am in the same boat...mine ran incredibly well with current gears and 31's but when I went to 33's it behave just like yours does now.

I cant find the gear ratio tag on the diffs. How do I figure it out?

You can look at the stamp on the axle as well. You'll need a good wire brush and a flashlight.

The T-5 is basically a 4spd with an Overdrive . You will probably do better using fourth most of the time and 5th only for the highway or hiwhway like driving. It is not unusual to have to row the gears to keep a low powered vehicle in its sweet spot and keeping it in 4th will help that, too. Either axle gearing or more power would help but the cheapest soluttion is to downshift when needed.

OP: are you sure you have a D35 in the front? Should be a Dana 30

It's a Dana 30 , that was a typo. Thanks for catching that.
