I can already hear it... "Get a new body".

This thread is to help me answer the question "How much will it cost if I don't get a new body"?

This CJ7 belongs to my wife, and it holds sentimental value to her. Her dad used to take her off-roading in it back in the late 1980s when she was a kid. So getting a new body would sort of defeat the purpose. If it were mine, I would probably just buy a whole different jeep and put this thing on craigslist.

But instead, it's up to me to fix it up. So I'm hoping you guys would be able to tell me how much money I'm looking at, to get a good paint job on this thing, with all bodywork finished out. $10,000 right? LOL

Well I don't think we'll have to replace any of the body, as it's a southern vehicle. There's no rust other than surface rust. At least none that I've been able to find. All seems pretty solid.

If we have to get a new frame then oh well. I may consider that aftermarket frame, if it doesn't make the ride too stiff.

How is the area of the body where the windshield hinges bolt to the body ? That area on the inside can get rotten with rust. On the front side and also the side area from my thumb to the top of my finger. I’m talking about the inside because it rusts from the inside out. IMG_4113.webp

Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to look those spots over really well from the inside. Anywhere else prone to rusting? I'll check the frame with a scope too.

Just below that area, below the Jeep lettering on the inside where there is a brace, between the body and that brace, I think it’s called the A piller. Also under the roll bar where it bolts to the body.
