I found a L-134 but not sure it that will be a pain as well. Has a slight knock and no intake/exhaust manifolds. Free.

The standard stickout length for an input shaft from the face of the Transmission is around 6.5 inches. You have 8.5 inches plus the distance of those two plates in front of the Transmission which may be another inch or more..............that is the Problem getting a standard depth Bell Housing to work with the long input shaft...........Jeep had a long cast Iron adaptor between the Transmission and the Bell Housing on several of there applications to make up the difference which in some cases were one off applications...........wasn't a very friendly setup to mate to anything.

The L-134 is in OakDale ? Ca. but the knock has me concerned and parts. If I can find a v6 or 4 banger that is newer I'm sure Eric can fix me up. He was scratching his head on the Slant 4

Here is some more bad news.............depending on the motor and where it has to set in the engine compartment ( fan & Radiator)as you move everything back the rear drive shaft starts to get real short in an already short early CJ.

Also if the Transmission is further back the shifters also move back into the drivers compartment..........a matter of even one inch ( 1") really plays havoc when you start to lay out the drivetrain............Not to say it cannot be done, just keep that in mind.

These long adaptor Jeep Transmissions were normally behind a Jeep truck or Pick Up with a longer wheelbase and hood so the extended length was what Jeep needed to get the shifter in the right location in the drivers compartment.

Maybe on the shorter shaft............parts like that not easy to find. Internals are pretty basic........external not so.

Willys I personally think hacked that complete program up with all the weird adaptors and lengths they had for the Borg Warner Trannys..........Of course I wasn't there and maybe they were dealing with off the shelf surplus Items and I guess there engineering departments were OK making this stuff fit in the different vehicles...........
Obviously not something you would see much beyond the 1960's in manufacturing terms! Makes good Conversation!

Excellent reconaissance. There are some features about this T98 that are - interesting. There is a type of conversion throwout bearing sleeve on it. The face bolt pattern is flipped from what we see in many Jeep T98's. However, conversion to this engine looks possible. It appears to have the BOP pattern on the back of it, which with a Buick bellhousing and a customized adapter kit, it can be done.

Can you do one more thing for me? Is the diameter of the input shaft splines 15/16" or 1-1/8"? Also, if you have a precise measurement of the input shaft pilot tip, we can draft up a quick plan and quote for you.
