OK Guys and Gals, I am in need of a little advice. I just picked up a 1976 CJ-7 Quadratrac and it is in need of a good rebuild, but it is all complete. I was working on a CJ-5 project and I have a nearly new SBC with about 1500 miles on it ready to drop in the CJ-7, but here is the dilemma I am facing. The CJ-7 has a running factory 304 that seems to be in good shape. If I pull it and go with the SBC will I be making a value mistake?
I am not building this CJ-7 for resale, but you never know what will come up down the road. So the question is, do I leave the 304 in the thing for factor correctness or go with the SBC that I know is a good strong motor?
What do you all think 304 or 350?
Thanks,
Mike

One thing to consider, a SBC will not bolt up to the transmission in the Jeep. It is a TH400 with an AMC bolt pattern. You would have to get an adapter.

Thanks Csurngr!
I asumed that it was a Chevy bolt pattern on the GM Turbo 400 .... That is somewhat of a game changer...

Thanks,
Mike

My vote is to keep your jeep, jeep. Around here the CJs with SBC seem to spend a long time on Craig’s List. Longer time to sell = sell for less in my world.
