I just acquired a 78 CJ5 and am looking for some pics of other CJ5 's and info as to what is done to them, to give me some ideas of what I want to do to mine:D Here is mine, its rough but a start and yes it is currently painted camo:rolleyes:

No problem CJ. We can't expect you to remember every vehicle on this site. Especially since I don't even own that one anymore.:)

What about ME????

I am not worthy...:(

Oh well Ok there is that little detail... I guess I might think about doing that...

Let me know if you need any specific photos. I'm in the middle of replacing all the brake system & repairing all the problems I find along the way.

Very cool pics folks, love em!!!! Definately gives me some good ideas!! I can't wait to get mine home and start really going over it and see whats what. I know it needs a windshield frame, floors fixed and the rear quarters repaired, o yeah and the front fenders are rough. I found a I can get the windshield frame and front fenders new for fairly cheap. Been concidering tube fender flaring the rear quarters with rock style corner protection panels and maybe tube fenders up front. I am only planning on running 33x12.50's(got em already) so not sure if it will look goofy with that small a tire and front tube fenders. This is going to be a street/off-road vehicle, built to be wheeled a lot more than my ZJ is but yet still able to be cruised around town on a nice afternoon. THANKS!!:D

I have seen some aftermarket fenders that were pretty bad... I'm going to by mine from Willys Overland as they chack them and send back any junk ones they get in...

Yeah I have been checking with people as to who they bought from and how they were to make sure I don't get junk(hopefully) !!

Certifiable---thanks!! That is a cool pair of CJ5 's your orange CJ5 is really sweet and very similar to what I am thinking of doing with mine. THANKS for the links!! Way cool!:D

So here is what I am thinking about right now for the CJ:
-318 Small block mopar
-either a 727 auto or the original 4 speed mated to the 318
-use the original TC with the 4 speed or a Dana 300 with the 727
-for now use the stock front and rear diffs, do have the option of using a pair of Scout 44's, but need to do more research to whats involved in that and whether its worth it to swap em in
-4" lift with new springs, maybe convert to a YJ leaf set up
-33x12.50x15 All terrains
-full cage
-rocker and corner protection
-tube fender flares?? , maybe just in the rear??
-painless wiring harness
-tube doors or half doors
-new windshield frame(complete), new front fenders, new rear quarter all from Quadratec(unless someone else has a suggestion here) and fix the floors
-led taillights and H4 headlamp conversion
-box the frame??

-This is subject to change, just what I am thinking so far. Any suggestions?? THANKS!!

before you stick the auto or the Dana 300 in, check driveline length with each of them installed. I hear that either one will make the rear driveshaft so short as to be unusable.

Sounds like a plan and like you have a good idea on what you want. As mylittlecj5 said, on a CJ5 the length makes an auto almost impossible, especially when you factor in the adapters you'll need to mate that combination together.

The Chrysler swap has been done before but it's not as popular as others so you'll have allot less resources at your disposal but should still be easily doable...

I like it! :D

Sounds like a solid plan as long as you keep the manual Transmission . The 318 something you have already or not?

Thanks guys!! :D Yeah the 318 is a good running freebie motor from a friend that came with a good 4x4 727 hanging off of it. I do plan to mock everything up in the frame and see what it looks like, but am heavily leaning towards the original 4-speed mated to the 318. I have a bad left hip and knee, but this isn't my daily rig so should be ok for short trips around town and weekend offroading. If not then I will tackle that problem at a later date. I know its more popular to go with the small block chevy swap , but the 318 is free and I am a mopar man so going that route. Besides I like to be a little different;) Hate seeing the same old thing all the time.

 So my big question is: Will the factory diffs hold up to a mild 318 and 33's?? Its not going to get wheeled hard and probably driven more around town than off road(I know here comes the bashing:rolleyes:).
