CJ 7, Straight 6. T4 trans. I think a 300 transfer case.Front Dana 30 with 4.88 gears. Rear AMC 20 with 4.88 gears.
I had some gears put in my AMC20 , 4.88, and a locker. from a shop and the right side made some noise on the drive home. long story short. the right side comes out a hole inch. Called the guy back and he said its suppost to be like that ?? the left side moves an 1/8 " and is fine. but the right one is way to sloppy. I'm never going back to that shop, so I would like to try to fix it my self. I looked in the book and see iner shims, and outer shims. Is not enough shims the poblem ? if so which ones do I need to add to ? Thanks

I would not want to even drive it in that condition. Would you reveal just who did the work?

Do you have 1 piece axles or the stock 2 piece ? Either way it is not right and sounds VERY DANGEROUS.

Either way it sounds like the outer bearing is not installed correctly. Please do not drive it.

I had a problem with a local shop when I was in Colorado that did some engine work for me on my Cherokee. Got a second opinion and then went back to the original shop putting my foot down. Got some satisfaction, but not total. Be careful you don't cross the line, yell, scream, or cuss, but go back and demand they fix it right. Also try your local better business office. Rod

Thanks for the info. After I calmed down, I called the shop. And he's going to pick it up saturday. Ya , I think it's the bearing.

Ya , After I calmed down , I called the shop. And there picking it up Saturday. I just dident want to take it back there becouse of a few other things that happend to my CJ there. Like broke the zipper to the soft door, and a couple other lesser probs. But I hope it go'es better this time. Thanks for your time.

The shop is going to pick up the CJ Saturday and fix it. Thanks for the feed back. And I hope your going to be at the King of the Hammers tomorrow the 7th. Big Fun !
