I've owned an '83 and an '85 CJ7 and wish I had either back. I'm currently in the market for another CJ7 and I have looked at a couple recently. I'm curious what everyone thinks about current prices of Jeep CJ-7s - I looked at a '78 Renegade with Quadratrak full-time 4wd, AMC 304 , and 3spd auto - body was 80% good, frame was 80% bad - $5000. I also looked at a '76 with a fresh AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l rebuild, 90% original, decent paint, new tires - $7200. If you look on ebay the asking prices are what I consider outrageous. Maybe I've been out of the CJ world so long that prices have doubled and/or tripled?? Would like to hear opinions of what everyone thinks are decent price ranges for non-modified, 90% original, clean CJ-7s. I'm not in the market for a mud jeep or ones that have been hacked to pieces and welded back together. Thanks in advance.

I agree, everyone seems to think they have a gold mine. I've seen a lot of tj's latly that are cheaper than cj's.

Nice, clean CJs, are getting hard to find.. They regularly go for between 3 and 7,000 around here, depending on condition. Keep looking though, there are still deals out there, but they are even harder to come by...

I agree deals are out there. My po needed needed money so I stoled my original , no rust cj. Just keep looking and you will find the right one. It took years for me. It all depends on what you are looking for.

I would suggest trying one of the states below you where winter salt or ocean salty air was never an issue. Then I would say the $5-8k range is justifiable. I don't know how much snow you may get where your at but rust is the number one devil in Jeeps because even the newest Jeep is already 26 years old.

Yes , area where salt is used is a area to avoid. Then again my cj was stored in the winter , so even in Michigan you can find a rust free cj. Just keep looking.

I picked mine up for $3500 a year ago. I was in the Texarkana area then.

3k gets you junk that will not pass smog in cali
5k gets you an ok ride
7k gets something worth owning
10k gets you a very nice mall cruzer !

Yes the CJ's are starting to go for more than a yj with more mods or better body.

I'm helping a friend look for one now, and in so-cal, the minimum for ok running condition is 3k. We've seen some pretty darn nice close to all stock for 5k range, and there's a lot of mild to heavily modified for 7-15k. Personally I look for close to stock as possible so I can add what I want or feel I need for what I do with it. I've learned through the years that Bubba doesn't always have a southern accent or wear overalls, so doing the upgrade work myself helps assure me that things are done to my liking ;)

I know here in the NW they are going for a decent amount. I felt lucky getting mine for $5500 but it was about a good a Jeep as you can find. 100% original, bought it from the original owner with the window sticker and manual still in the glove box. All records and the original AMC key chain. Rebuilt AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and uncut dash. Not one trace of rust. He cold have gotten more for it…
