OK so every thing I can think of to describe how I feel will be deleted by the censor bot so I guess the term moron will have to do.

the new MC2150 has had a too high idle problem ever since I put it on. I kept trying to lay this off to too large a main jet pair in the bowl but I couldn't convince myself that the main jets even came into play at idle.

this weekend while on the shake down run I had the opportunity talk this over with a couple of guys that are better mechanics than I am. after describing the problem they both asked if I had pulled the throttle plates off during the rebuild and when I said yes they both used one of those words that describe me better than moron.

Apparently you need to be a lot more careful about re centering the throttle plates than I was because it sure doesn't take much of a gap to totally screw up the idle.

They both said that they never took the throttle plates off or the rod out but just soaked and flushed it.

Tonight I pulled the carb and re centered the plates, that were a whole lot farther off than I would have guessed and after replacing it on the engine it started on the 4th rev , I did cheat a bit and put a squirt of fuel in the top to make up for the dry bowl.

I have not done any adjustment, it's late and It will keep till tomorrow but I did have a beverage and do a little Happy Dance in celebration of one more problem out of the way.:banana::banana::chug:

Just an update, I put an edge on the tune and it seems quite happy to idle at 650-700 RPMs.:banana::banana:

Darned thing still overheating, guess it is time for a new thermostat. Oh well ,tomorrow another day.:chug:

One more thing, I found that I have #49 main jets. haven't looked at the plugs yet but it does not smell rich at this point.

#49 seems kinda high, mine was rich bad with those same size jets. Stepped em down to #46 and all is well. If you need jets IO there isn't but one website I've found that you can get em from, and they are pricey. Ill tell you this and shut up, took my carb to the local carb Guy because I couldn't find the jets, he said it might be possible to drill and tap the fuel bowl to accept holley jets, but he didn't want to try it with a good carb. if you can find a bad carb to experiment with you might get away using holley jets, which would open up a whole new world of tuneability.

For what it's worth, I've found keeping the EGR system functional helps noticeably in the Underhood Temp battle.

Autolite & Motorcraft Carburetor Main Jets

as soon as I put a few miles on it so I can look at the plugs I thought I would order some of these.

Why would Holly be a big advantage other than being easier to get??

EGRs are a very cool thing, no pun intended, One of these days I need to put a bung in the header to accept the EGR tube.

That's just it they are easier to get and less expensive, did i mention how much I had to fork out for too little jets $30 shipping and all. right around $8 to throw em in a envelope and stick a couple stamps on it. I can run down to the parts store and pick up various size Holley jets for a little of nothing = tuneability. Not so much at $30 bucks a pop.

even so $10 a pair is a fair chunk of change for something you need a magnifying lens to read the numbers on.:D

Damn do I feel ripped off, only place I could find em when i was lookin was carbs.com and they was over $20. They broke it off in me, evidently. Disregard my other posts.

Right. If it hadn't been so long I'd probably be a little more pissed about this. Might even be mad enough to send a hateful email. But oh well.

I wouldn't want to have to make them for $5 apiece, not on a manual machine anyway.
But than a good cnc machine could spit them out pretty fast.

no arguments there.

My economics is stuck in the 80s:D

I'm guessing they have a supplier that makes large quantities for them at a time at very low cost, then they pass those savings right to you
