Its been a while. but aren't those a torx head on that?

either way, grab the heads with a pair of vice-grips, go underneath and use a 6 point socket on the nuts. much easier access down there.

and put a fair amount of anti-seize on the replacement bolt threads.

The screws on my dimmer are flat heads with a straight slot. Of course they are from 72 though.

Mine are regular bolt heads, but ya'll say they are nuts & screws, I'm not worried about cutting the heads off now.
NOW, everything inside is fixed EXCEPT the air cable to the heater. The cable was moving, but the linkage wasn't except when I pulled the knob out. I traced the cable & found the housing isn't attached on the back of the dash. Is there a way to repair this, or do I need to replace the cable & housing?

I installed new side marker lite lens & descovered the drs side didn't work. I checked the socket & it's hot on both sides. Thn I saw the drs side parking lite wasn't working. I need to replace it. Rotted out. The plug to the parking lite is ok, hot on 1 side & not on the other. When I rechecked the drs side marker lite, it's barely visable. Ground problem?

Sure sounds like it. Sounds like a dirty ground connection some where.

if there is ground showing at both sides of a terminal, it is a bad ground problem with that circuit.
Sounds like its seeking ground thru the barely working light, causing it to burn very dim.

Both sides of the bulb socket are "hot". My test light lights on both sides. Sorry guys, I ain't much count explaining stuff I don't know about.

If both sides are hot it still sounds like a bad ground. Because a part of the circuit can't get to ground some where it is seeking the path of least resistance - through your test device. I bet you are using a test light, not a digital meter.

Yes, 12v test light. I have a meter, but ain't much count with it either.

OOPS I mistyped that last post!
IF its showing power to both sides, then its a ground problem from the (light, whatever) to the ground connection.

I'm glad you misread. Momma is always tellin' me I lack with words. I just say what I think. No tack. Just an ole country boy.

Got the wheel cylinders replaced yesterday & the air duct cable removed. the housing broke about 4" back from the dash.

Feel free to do a new thread "Meters for Dummies". I'll be the 1st to sign up! I have a nice meter, just don't know how to use it.

Started on the brake lines/hoses this evening. Several bolts broke off & the snap ring on the hose that both rear brake lines tie into, is missing the eyes for the snap ring pliers. Guess it'll get the Dremel tomorrow. There's a stud in the frame above the gas tank, that I can't get the nut off. A socket won't fit & I tried a combo wrench, open end with a screwdriver thru the box end, (like a T wrench). No good. I hate to cut that one off. Several of the bolts that hold the clamps that secure the lines to the frame have broken off. I'm thinkng of using stainless steel gear drive hose clmps, wrapped around the frame, to hold the new brake lines in place.
Any ideas guys?

Breaking off those break line clamp bolts is pretty common. I don't think I would wrap the frame with a hose clamp though. I'd spend a few minutes and put on some rivet nuts. Some thing like ->> Blind rivet nuts then use a clamp.

They look pretty good. I may try them if I can't get the old bolts out. I'm putting Nev-R-Sez on everything I take apart. Got the dimmer switch replaced. The PO had put licence plate bolts & the plastic retainers in the floorboard. I'm learning a lot from th 5. PO did lots of cosmetics, but was piss poor on the maintenance. Entire suspension is pitted. Looks like he off roaded & failed to go to the car wash & clean the underneath when done.

For those of you rebuilding/replacing, be sure to spend the time to check pricing/shipping costs w/ several vendors. I have spent money for parts that if I had shopped around, I could have gotten them cheaper.

All the brake lines/hoses are off. Gettin' the new ones in the same places is going t be a real project.

There's a line that runs down the passenger's side of the frame & crosses over to the driver's side on the crossmember in front of the gas tank. What is this line for. I cut it while cutting the clamp tht held it in place.

It should be a fuel system return vapor line. You should just put a splice of fuel line in and connect the parts you cut together.
