Guys,
Apparently a previous owner of my CJ converted the entire ignition system over to a ford system (I assume becuase of the lack of OEM Jeep parts for the 2.5l AMC). We only discovered that after order two different distributors that physically fit in the engine and gearing was correct, but the wiring wasnt right becuase it was designed to hook up to the jeep ignition system.
My question is: Does anyone know my chance which of the Ford Motorcraft 4cyl distributors fits the AMC 2.5l on a 1985 CJ7 ? We tried using the serial number on the bad one we pulled out but the one we got had mismatched gears and the shaft was too short so it didnt fit physically.
Kind of at a loss here so any help is much appreciated.
What would it take to just convert the entire ignition system to something new? Is that even possible on a 2.5l AMC? Does anyone know where to find that?
Thanks so much!

The 85 AMC 2.5 ignition is a Ford system, the same as the 258. The ICM is the same for the 4 or 6 cyl CJ engines for 85. The connectors for the distributor should be the same as the 258 as well. Could things be getting confused because the PO nutter'd the 2.5? What does your ICM look like? Looks like Rockauto listing says only rebuild yours and then send back to you . ICM part numbers are the same for both the 150 and 258. Make sure that where you are getting your parts from is not giving you a GM 151 distributor. AMC stopped the GM 4 cyl in 83. 84 on are AMC 150.
Took this off my 84 last year. I know it's original because I bought it new. 5-6 years ago I changed out to an MSD everything while using this original distributor. Was like dropping in a new engine, while the engine actually had 238 K miles. Working on a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l to drop in now. Going to use the MSD stuff along with a new MSD distributor. These are the only markings I see on it off hand.
