My son has a 74 CJ5 we have gotten running, but don't know how to hook up his new alternator he purchased. It's a replacement that duplicates the old motorola originally on his jeep, we know which post connects to the battery, but are unsure of the others. The Motorola regulator has a green, black, yellow and orange wire coming out of it. We believe the yellow goes to the resistor on the firewall. Looking at the back of the alternator there are two flat posts on the top, 12:00 position, one horizontal and one vertical. We think the horizontal post takes the green wire, one to the right of it with the flat post vertical, we think this needs the black wire. The orange wire we think goes on the left of the alternator on a post in the 9:00 position. The wire to the battery would go on the bottom post at the 6:00 position. We're going to try to attach a picture. The black shows as a purple in the picture, we think we have the green and purple mixed up. thanks.

Since you still have a stock CJ, you could do an internet search for "'74 Jeep CJ5 wiring diagram", and come up with something.

F should be field and B should be battery correct?

Torxhead: We've been looking for a wiring diagram, and they all say that the green and black go to the terminals in the 12:00 position, but they don't say which color wire goes to which terminal. If we had the original harness with the original formed plug it would be a lot easier to determine which wire goes where.

johnnyreb: As for the letters written in sharpie, we are not sure who wrote them. We think that the people at the parts place wrote them on, but I wanted to double check in case some parts guy didn't know what he was doing. Yes, "B" is the battery terminal. As for the "F", every picture that we've seen says that the orange "AUX" wire goes there, not the green "FIELD" wire. We'll attach another photo that we found online of how we believe the wires should be attached.
