Hello again all. I know I have been absent for about about a year or so now but I had to pop my ugly mug back up for another long winded question.

skip to the bottom if you don't want the back story

I've actually had my cj parked for about 7 months now while collecting parts and working 12 hour days so no time to really even work on it. Shortly after fixing my timing chain I got to commute with her for a couple months before I kinda accidentally bent an axle tube, that led to my GM Turbo 400 starting to slip, and my brake booster starting to go out. Like my brake pedal was rock hard by tie time I was getting home from my hour long commute.

Shes a 78 so I figure it's just time to make her current. So I ordered the holley pro-jection kit, The upgrade CJ7 power brake booster kit, spiffy prop block, all new rubber, and hard lines under the rig, front and rear Dana 44 's. now the part that most will find really stupid. However I am a crane operator so I like to have control of what I am running. I found and had rebuilt a ford T-18 and jeep Dana 20 then mated them using the advanced adapter kit. I plan on using the hydraulic master and slave from an 81 cj.

Did I loose everyone yet from rambling?
Ok so here is my really dumb question. I know I had to order the special pilot bushing from advanced because the ford tranny has a short shaft and will not reach the crank. Do I still use the little one that came in the clutch kit though? My thought is yes, the special order one is like a spacer so I would still need the one with the clutch kit. but I am hoping someone has done this before and can help me out here. I'm ready to put this in right now and don't want to mess it all up and take it out next weekend .

Thank you for any help

No, you should only use the pilot bushing that came from Advance Adapters for the Ford T-18 swap. The new one still has to seat in the bore of the crankshaft like the stock one but it sticks out from the face of the crank end in order to reach and support the shorter Ford T-18 input shaft tip.

As said, No. on the pilot bushing.
I will add. I have put a few of these in and seen guys actually bend their cranks trying. Put the bushing in the freezer overnight. Then just slip it in and hold it in tight until it warms up.

Good Luck.

Wifey asked nicely, while tapping her hand with a rolling pin for my help with other things today. So I will remember the freezer trick for next week. I had the thing sitting in an oil bath for 24 hours as I read that is needed. hmm oil bath in the wives freezer.. I might get smacked. but it's always worth the look on her face.

Thank you for the advice guys I'll try to at least stick around a little more than once a year. If I can remember my password I can log in from my phone and bum around on a slow day at work. My laptop just has it saved.

Use Advanced Adaptors or Novak for the pilot bushing as the Ford front shaft is about an inch shorter than the Jeep version; also the Ford shaft is 1-1/6” while the Jeep is 1-1/8”.

The T-18 is a tall box. Jeep dropped the Transmission down so it wouldn’t hit the body by using an inch of spacers between the frame and the skid plate. Any 1” drop kit should work. Here is some additional info that may be of help:

Put it in a jar covered I oil and pop it right in the freezer and leave I there until you need it. Is your Jeep in a heated garage? This trick works its best when the Jeep is hot and the bearing is very cold. Of course you can heat the shaft before popping the bearing in.

I had a T-18 behind a 231 V6 Buick and Dana 300 . Loved that Jeep. It did everything I ever asked it to do.

I ordered the pilot from advanced when I got the adapter. and thank you for the link saddle tramp. since you're local to me, how bout I buy you a beer as thank you when I get this thing running in the next couple months.

as far as a heated garage goes. no. I'm one of those guys that likes to think that I can just buy tools for the price of a shop doing something then figure out how to do it as I go. so the cj is in one of those portable garages in the driveway. but I have a couple different torches I can use to heat things up. lol sometimes not thinking helps, and sometimes it doesn't.

thanks again for the advice guys.
