i like the looks of the back of a jeep with a tire and carrier on, it just looks right. but if you don't want it, and wanna ship it i'll take that off your hands.

I like to see the Jeep stamp on the tailgate. It just seems right. When we tally the vote we'll see on shipping.

You need a spare, theres realy no where else to put it.

Mine has the factory option that put gussets in the roll bar and had a mount to put it the bed horizontal. It would render my tonnaue useless though.

All I can say is thank you. You really made my day. I just try to share information on these Cjs as much as I can. Most of my stuff is "shade tree mechanic" but Im evolving using this site too. Honestly , if you have a Cj this is the site to check out. Great bunch of people , and thats where it starts.

Thanx for your interest in my threads yet again. But honestly I look forward to reading yours.

First time im posting anything on your threads and i just wanted to say thank you for taking your time and writing all these up. I started reading the

$600 Salvage Cj-7 thread and really enjoyed it. I have now read all your threads and they are great!
As for the spare i would have to agree with OLD DOG. If you have a spare you might as well put it on. Never know when you will run over a nail again.

Id also like to show a bit of progress for you guys. Winter sucks. The Savage CJ7 sits outside along with ole rusty the parts junker. The Scrambler gets the special garage treatment . Anyway had to get the front axle outta Rusty today. Heres what it looked like after coming home from work.

How'd ya get the driveshaft out.

Got a late start so out came the sawzall. I needed a rear driveshaft for the auto swap on the Scrambler and bought a set front and rear. Didnt need that one so I decided it wasnt worth the time.Went to pull the axle after and the tires got hung up on the front bumper. 4 more stubborn rusted bolts later I finally had it out. Still have to grab the steering box for the power steering conversion since the captured nut in the frame broke loose. Only thing I have left to do outside till Spring though.

damn i thought i had me a tire carrier, shoulda kept my mouth shut. ah well im probably gonna make one, or try to, shouldn't be to hard, maybe with some gerry can, hi-lift, and cb antennae mounts.

Honestly thats the look I prefer. I think I am going to design a integrated tire cover to the tonnaue cover. Maybe snaps to the the tonnaue I have now. I need toget the original mount for the roll bar and go from there. Thats a ways down the road though. I still need to designate my tire size 31 or 32 and make sure to stick to it. .

You cant find a stock tire carrier down there? People around here pretty much chuck 'em. If you really want a stocker let me know and I'll keep my eye out. I'll send it to ya for the shipping.

Well its been a rough couple weeks lately but I ended up with some garage time that went hideously awry. Some rusty crusty bolts , uncaptured nuts , dead batteries , more snow , a flat tire , and a top coat of ice for our winter wonderland here.

Anyway , I start power muscling away on the u bolts for the springs from the parts Jeep. Someone put up a post about fine thread bolts saying how tedious they are. True. I wish the rest of them wouldve snapped like this one did. What a rusted mess.

Leverage is everything on these things. I want them to break or break free. No luck.



Theyre tough to work with being the axle isnt mounted so its time to bring in the big guns. Sawzall time my friends. My first attempt is with a 14 tpi metal blade. The 18 tpi blade that I had in reserve cuts thru the first Ubolt. 1/4 way thru the next its done.
