Now with my new found friend I have parameters that must be met. Nothing 3 ft. behind or to the sides of it. Nothing 5 ft. in front of it. This totally changes the way I have the Scrambler set up. I cant really elaborate on it much more tonite , but lets just say it turned into a nasty altercation.
So the nose of the Salvage CJ7 gets to peak in the garage for awhile to rejuvenate the battery in the Scrambler. Of course before that could happen I had to move the axle back outside so the jumper cables would reach. Somewhere along the line one of my crappy all terrains sprung a leak.
Great. Now Im changing a tire while Im jumping the Scrambler. No 33 in. spare so Im extra screwed. Things cant get worse right?
Sure they can. Dropping the Jeep back on the ground I notice something leaking at the front , inside the garage. There were damaged fins on the radiator from the day I got it. Well they let loose and now theres a puddle of antifreeze to clean up. Sorry no pics of that but it was green.

Seems like alot of work just to turn the Scrambler around so its facing the opposite way huh? Yeah your right. 
Anyway I get the leaky Salvage CJ7 outta the way and rev the Scrambler a bit. I had determined it needed a clutch , but in 4wd it cooperated and this part was easy.
Hopefully thats a sign of things to come. I had already decided to give the Salvage CJ7 a complete makeover and this just escalated that project. I'll finish up the Scrambler in the next few weeks and start that for those of you who follow my other thread as well.

Pete you're doing better than me, piss pourin rain and what do you know winshield wipers quit, then I get some rainx and my heater switch gives up, cold+rain-defrost=instant fog. What a day. Gotta love old jeeps huh.

That made me laugh a bit. My windshield wiper linkage is broken. But it only effects the drivers side. Its the longest arm in there ... longest = most exspensive. Whatcha gonna do? Poop happens.

goes out on mine it happens in two's, example: intake gaskets, then alternator. wipers, then heater. everytime

Yes i would have to agree with Pete that made me laugh.. at least you know nothing else will brake for now. Have a few cold
ones and get at it 
...i just got another heater and if i can just change them out along with the rest of my heating stuff then u can prob have my other one that i dont use. I will let you know by this weekend.
Well looks like I have a little while before that Lombardi shows up. 
Anyhow back to Jeepin. So before its time to start tearing the old axle out I needed to take a peak inside its replacement to make sure its good. I got it from the President of our Jeep club whom Ive dealt with plenty before , but hey ya gotta check
I was told it was driven not too long ago. I always prefer to grab up parts from a stocker as well. From what Ive seen of the parts Jeep it just rusted out from under itself. A new exhaust was on it and that was about it. Pretty much untouched. Somewhere in its 26 years I hope it ventured off road but there really arent any signs it did. That left me with a front ring and pinion that look good as well as the bearings.

The front axle in the Scrambler didnt fight me to hard. Right now Im just waiting for the new U-bolts and shackles to show up. I tore everything down and will drop the springs and roll the axle in this weekend. Another thing that needs a bit of attention is the frame around the shock tower area. Im gonna clean this up and Por-15 it while Im here

Well here we are got the axle out and now everything will be smooth sailing.
I got my box of parts from Morris yesterday and decided to get to work today. The box was pretty big for 4 U-bolts and 2 shackles.
When I pulled out the shackles I knew something was amiss. These bad boys were quite a bit longer than my stockers. I wanted some that were only going to add 3/8 of an inch. Thats what you usually get when you go to aftermarket shackles. I'll say this , there was some confusion on the phone of what Morris had and what they didnt. Alot of "No we dont have that , and We get those directly from the supplier"
Ummm... No poop.
Anyway it was a longer phone call than I wanted but I spit out the part numbers and confirmed. Well my new shackles offer 1 3/8 in of lift. Not sure what I wanna do.

I know what I'd do. Send them back and get the right ones.
You know they are going to cause steering issues.
I know. That puts the brakes on anything this weekend.

can you use your old shackles just to get everything hung in place.
I suppose I couldve but I was busy pouting about it for awhile. Luckily my friend Harry stopped by to snap me out of it. It helped that he brought his torch set up with.
Out to the parts Cj we went to persuade that power steering box to come back inside with us. That captured nut that spun inside the frame wont be giving me any more trouble.
So I thought I was gonna have a good day of working on the Scrambler this weekend but nope , didnt happen. Sent my shackles back to Morris and waited , and waited finally calling yesterday. Seems my shackles arrived Monday. My new ones werent shipped. They are very nice on the phone and seem to be a pretty easy place to deal with. I'll let you know more about how I feel after they arrive.
For some reason though Im actually pretty happy. Why? Well I was on the computer (of course ) just surfin around and found myself a bit of a deal. How does a set of 4 Superlift 2 1/2 in springs barely used for $50 sound? Pretty good to me. Gotta grab them from a guy in our local club after work Monday. So the Scrambler is gonna go up in the air a bit and end up on 33s most likely. Im also going to forget about a new clutch and move on with the auto conversion. Look for my T-176 /Dana 300 in the classified ads soon.
