Build Thread My lust for no rust 82 Cj-7

Build Thread My lust for no rust 82 Cj-7
Ok so I made my final decision and the Laredo is going to be built into my Cj pick up. It just has a better foundation for what I envision my truck to be like. So I'll start a new thread on that when I start it. In the mean time I've been going over what I need to make this a legitimate daily driver. Um holy :dung: have I got a list.

1. Carb
2. DUI dizzy upgrade
3. Tailgate
4. Door striker
5. Boat sides
6. Fenders
7. Clutch / Adjust
8. Battery hold down
9. Windshield wipers
10. Air filter
11. Fuel filter
12. Complete fluid change
13. Brakes
14. Tires
15. Turn signal lenses
16. Side market lenses
17. Possible right front spring
18. Go over steering and suspension

That of course doesn't include the rear frame fix and a couple little things on the wish list. This is my weekend to work through but with a list like that I have to get started. :chug: Wish me luck. :D

That list looks tame and normal. Nothing crazy there. You will be knocking items off of that list quickly

Have you received blessings from the 'war-dept' for this? :D
LG

Start with those things on the list that are the easiest to accomplish. :) That way your list gets smaller quick. :D This will help you feel like your getting somewhere. Too many people start with the hardest thing first and then get discouraged. Knowing you, it'll all be done by the end of the month. ;)

I may have these to help you out and I :agree: with PB

Not till after vacation at the end of the month. :D

The frame repair is gonna be the big part. I was just surprised a little by how quickly the list grew. I also have some of the parts as well so that should help move things along

The one thing that drives me nuts is it won't idle. I can't stand that so it'll be carb first. Probably going to suck some people and keep the CarterBBD. Stay tuned.

I appreciate the offer but mine aren't broken or anything. Just weathered to the point new ones would really freshen it up.

I see stuff on eBay from your area by a particular junk yard dealer. I bet you could find a good used one.

Here's the other side:

I decided I'd start with removing the rusty red one and replace it with one from the Salvage CJ7 . Somehow I forgot about the tailgate I had from the Limited . It will make this small procedure a little easier:

So everyone says start with something easy. Tailgate seemed easy enough but no. The previous owner welded the hinges to the tub. I noticed after I dented the tub trying to remove them. I thought the hinge was moving but um nope. So after the sawzall and drill came out I finally rid myself of the crusty tailgate. Now I have some drilled Torxhead bolts to remove and a dent to repair.

I also removed this make shift rear seat. Rotted wood backing and not bolted down = not safe for anyone

Well I guess it was safe for the mice that crapped all over the carpeting

Well some rust removal accomplished. Hopefully I can get a bit better at bodywork with this Jeep. Here's the back , we'll get all painted and looking good sone :

Dave from Storks automotive? :D

That's the one. :notworthy: I've had good luck with them. Only wish they were closer, I'd buy more parts. ;)

By-the-way, I hope you didn't toss that old tail gate! I was thinking I would try to find one like that down here to cut the Jeep logo out of instead of using my rust free one. I will be adding the logo like that or one from a CJ5a to a plain Chevy tailgate for my pickup bed. :)

I'll hold on to it. I will probably cut the top edge of it off as well for use on the pick up project.

Bah, that'll buff out...:D

Ain't nothing a case of liquid bread and an extensive vocabulary couldn't fix!
