Build Thread My lust for no rust 82 Cj-7
Well talked with the shop again. He found a full frame I'd have to buy and cut. $600 for a good frame to cut in 1/2 and put under mine about another $600. I figure between wheels, tires, brakes, a clutch and misc items I'm looking at another $1300-$1500 after that. A crate engine for the '81 is looking like the smarter way to go. With working 3-3 all this week I have about $1000 saved. At this point I think I should just keep saving.

Or maybe grab a 360 4 bbl from this mornings Craigslist ads. $400 and I can hear it run 1st. I like the sound of that

Got a call from the shop saying "Come on up , I wanna show you something ". Never a sentence I want to hear. Well what he did show me were a couple more spots in the frame that were going to need attention later on. He said instead of chasing it around let's replace the whole rear frame section. I'm in agreement. I said I was going to save this Cj so that's that.

The ride to the shop brought all the memories of Cjs of this era flooding back. A sputtering CarterBBD, and horrific 2.72 gears turning the equally crappie 2 piece axles. Honestly though those are the only real annoying characteristics. Hopefully I can have it regeared for Spring.
My scrambler frame was so shot I cut the back 36 inches off and started over. I replace every body mount tab and added steel to the whole mid section. It was alot of work.

Well Peter, here I go again spend'n your $$$$$.:D Why not look for a 401 and live the dream.

I so much wish I could weld. One day I will it's just not right now. I won't ditch this project. Maybe this will be the one I learn how to weld on.

Nope that's crazy money right there. :D I'll stick with a $400 360.

Learning to weld. Is like learning a foreign language.
You have to 'use-it' or you will 'loose-it'.
You can't just lay down several 'beads' of weld. Then come back a month or so later and expect to do the same as when you finished before.
I relearn this every time I fire up my old Lincoln Weld Pak 100, wire feed welder.
