I've a '74 CJ5 with the AMC 232 i6 in it.
When I brought it home almost two years ago, it had some sort of hacked up throttle cable set-up on it. Someone had put a bent up piece of metal on the carb. linkage and had the throttle cable routed around to pull from the driver's side towards the pass. side.
I've noticed in other carb. threads, newer Jeeps pull down on the linkage from behind the carb..
There's nothing on my manifolds to connect anything to.
I'm obviously missing something.
Help!

I don't understand what you think you're missing. From the picture it looks fine.

Look again. Lol! It's cobbled up garbage. Me thinks I may have the wrong carb. on it. The original "ball" on the carb. linkage needs to be pulled down not over to the pass. side like the new and "improved" linkage does. It also does not allow full throttle opening.
If you look closely, you can see the ball on the carb. linkage in the shadows. That bent piece of metal is indexed over it. That's why my hand is in the picture, the screw is not holding it on there, I am.

Ok, so for the throttle to open it has to be pulled down.

You may have to contact a old Jeep Parts supplier and see if they have some stock linkage laying around. Sorry I can't help.

Ok, someone shared a diagram over at Early CJ5 .com and this is what I ended up with.

Isn't that the same thing where it's pulling towards the passenger side?

Yes! I have no idea why the PO bent that make-shift bracket up and put that ball on it. All they had to do was put the ball on the lower side of the linkage.
I guess I couldn't see the forest for the trees!
Tomorrow, I'll bend that bracket for the throttle cable so it's pulling straight on the carb. linkage.
Anyway, it's all good now.
