Hello. I need help identifying the engine in my 1957 CJ3b . The serial number on the water pump boss reads: 4FR168787. I understand its an F134 Hurricane , but trying to decipher if its an original motor or not. If anybody can please point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it!

Also looking for help with the serial number on my frame.... The data plates on the body are missing and the number on the frame rail is all I can find. It reads: 40593. Any help on that would also be appreciated!

I just got the Jeep, and will be restoring it. Any info I can get on it would help out a lot! Anybody know where I can get the body serial number tags, or have them made??

Thank you so much. This is my first, of many I'm sure, posts. LOL.

I love playing these ID games,

The serial number on the water pump boss reads: 4FR168787.
I believe this to be a F-134 truck or wagon engine. All CJ F-Heads started with 4J. The other possibility was the engine was a factory rebuild and the old numbers were removed and new stamped in.

Hello.

The frame 5 digit numbers look to be 54 most 1957 had 6 digits. Maybe there is a number that isn't legible.

Yes, there is a guy that makes Willys tags and does an excellent job, even has the reverse stamping on the plate. I would have to look thru my emails to find his.

Here is some reading on the 3b's vin that may help.

I once owned the earliest known surviving 54 3b, it was # 22 that rolled off the line (54OB 10022), now I see there is one earlier in Colombia (54OB 10006). Well, it's still the earliest known in the USA. I sold it to Dave, he lives about 40 miles from me.

Thanks for the input guys! I'll be back! Lol. Any Telltale's that would help in identifying the Jeep by the frame itself? Body is definitely a 3B, with the tall hood and grill. Someone did an attempt at re-skinning the body and didn't do a good job. Rear wheel arches are no longer squared off.

Sorry, In my last reply I said the arches are no longer squared off....I meant to say that someone has since squared them off and are no longer rounded. I'll get pictures ASAP. Buffalo weather is rough on cars, and looks more than likely that I'll be in the market for a new/used tub once I get going on the restoration. I've helped my father in law restore his 45 MB, so I'm no stranger to some places to get parts. But, ANY help is always appreciated!!

If this helps, pics of the 54 3b I owned.

There's just no way I would ever let that 3B go.

I know, it still hurts.
I never advertised it.
Wasn't looking to sell it
Word of mouth
There is a price for everything
The buyer found it
At least every CJ went out the door in better condition then when it came in.
