I think there may be a pilot bearing you'll need to address, also what bellhousing are you using.

I'm no expert, but in the process of rebuilding a T-18 for my Dana 20 so I'll be watching this thread.

Novak and Advance Adapters are great resouces for information of this nature so you may want to check them out.

I'll be watching this thread for 'BB's sake. :)

Your TC stick is not the standard CJ set-up. I've seen those on Scouts and other applications. I thought the stick arrangement was interesting so I asked my Jeep guy about it. He said they were finicky and troublesome. Exactly why I really don't know. It doesn't surprise me that the shift pattern is different.

I will try this when I get home tonight..... sounds like I want to get rid of it if that's what I have though. Donor vehicle had 77k on it...

Not necessarily, you can stick a "twin stick" conversion on it. The basic Transfer Case is the same, it's the stick mechanism that is slightly different. Is it working, maybe backwards but is it still functional?

It's a Dana 20 for sure. I believe those FSJ shifter use a J pattern. Try to move it either left or right when it's all the way to the rear. No experience with the FSJ shifter, but if it seems to be problematic, look into JB Fab twin stick setup.

Also, make sure that Transmission will fit your CJ (assuming that's what your putting it in). The FSJ T-18 has a much longer input shaft than a CJ (or Ford) version. Everything I've read says they need an input shaft swap to fit a CJ, but I don't know exactly where the problem areas are, other than shifter location.

It's a U shaped pattern.
Pull back, then push over to the right.
Then back up.
U shaped.
It's not the standard straight back as shown on the knob picture.
