1978 CJ7 304, Th400, Quadra trac converted to part time and low range
1978 CJ7 AMC 304 V8 with GM Turbo 400 and quadra trac (coverted to part time 2wd with low range).
Developed a leak of ATF at the Transmission side of the adapter. I called a Transmission shop and bought an output shaft seal and a seal kit for the Quadra Trac since it would be out.

How do I remove the adapter plate? It slides back and forth about 1/4", however I cant get it past that. There was a ring around the bearing which I removed however it does not change anything.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Solved one, now question on leaks GM Turbo 400

Ok, Fixed that issue. Now that the adapter is off, I notice that there is not an output shaft seal, and that the ATF appears to be allowed to run through the bearing and up to the input of the quadra trac. Am I correct that the ATF is contained by the paper gaskets on both sides of the adapter, and the adapter is otherwise full of ATF?

Thanks

Quadra Trac + ATF = dead Quadra Trac. They do not and should never share fluid. There are two seals on the Transfer Case side that the tranny output shaft seals against. They are not in the adapter or the Transmission .
