Need transfer case help...?!?!?

Hi all,

Very new to all this, but picked up a '72 CJ5 for hunting season and got it out there road hunting only to find out that the 4WD wasn't functional. Checked the hubs, etc., no obvious problems.

Moved on to the Transfer Case ... have wheels off, up on blocks in garage, access panel in floorboard removed... shaft coming out of the front of Transfer Case is not turning when put into 4WD. Assuming this means something along the lines of stripped gears and needing to be rebuilt.

And i thought it was a Dana 30 Transfer Case , but am not seeing much info on those... so maybe i'm mistaken? (VIN is in my vehicle profile info if that helps).

Wondering how to best diagnose, how feasible a rebuild is, or what other transfer cases are just a good swap out/bolt up option?

Dana 20 Transfer Case , first check linkage operation. Get the shift rods on the case to go in and out.

Lube the linkage and shift rails
Remove the pipe thread bolt on the rear of the case and check the fluid (should be about level with the bottom of the hole)
The Dana 20 is a stout case.
