Need u bolts

I had to remove the u bolts from my YJ with a grinder and Dremel tool. The PO didn't apply nev-r-seze when he installed the lift kit. On each side, one u bolt was lond enough that 4-5 threads were showing on one, but the other, the threaded part was only 1/2 way thru the nut. How do I measure for the correct size u bolt and where do you recommend I purhase them?

There are 3 important measurements for the U Bolt.
1, the A dimension is the size of your axle.
2. the B dimension must be long enough to go over your axle tube, leaf pack and shim. This Axle shim is often the reason one end of the U bolt appears to be longer than the other. It doesn't have to go as far over the small end of the shim.
3. The diamiter of the bolt size. This might be 1/2 inch.

Check your local auto parts stores. I got my U bolts from a 4x4 mechanic shop.

I never use never seize. I use locktite. It does the same thing as never seize; it prevents rust or corrosion from seizing up the joint or nut. Plus locktite keeps the nut from getting loose. Never seize is like a lubricant.

If you use Locktite, use the blue stuff, red is permanent and will need a boat load of heat to get it release.

Most machine shops, and all driveshaft shops can make U-joints to any size you need them. You can even buy them over the counter at most auto parts stores, using the info that BusaDave listed above.

Loctite is a thread locking compound. There are many different types depending on your application.

Loctite is a thread locker. Actually Loctite is a name brand that's not as common as it used to be. I use Permatex threadlocker blue most often. It's medium strength. Red is the strong stuff.
