when I was researching my rear axle repair I noticed there are a lot of places to purchase new parts, gears, seals axles etc. Is there any difference in the quality of these parts between companies? where is the best place to order parts from. Is there a brand name like Danna or Spicer that is associated with the higher end parts? are there brands to aviod?

I am rebuilding (well-am paying someone to rebuild) both diffs in my 74. My opinion-when posible use Dana/Spicer parts. Especially for ring/pinion, bearings and seals. Again, my opinion there quality is top notch, a little more pricey than after market, but, I feel (as do both mechanics doing my diffs) worth the extra money. There are a ton of aftermarket options for ring and pinion, seals, bearings etc. After researching, I went with dana/spicer unless product availability dictated another route. I do not want to be doing this again in 1-2 years.... Some folks may have great luck with aftermarket and spend less than I did, but , I paid the extra $$$ and got Dana/Spicer. My second option for hub parts-Moog...

For my trail rig I decided to go with USA standard gear because of the price ($200 less for both sets then yukon). Standard gear is yukon except they don’t do the final lapping with a fine grit compound that helps with break-in and run quieter/cooler. I won’t hear gear noise, if any, over the larger tires (won’t be at higher speeds as well).

Yukon/ “USA” Standard Gears are manufactured by Punjab Bevel Gears in Ghaziabad, India.

thanks. I'll add Randy's to my jeep notes. never hurts to have multiple options. I haven't looked them up yet....are they in Crawlarado too

thanks. I never mind spending the money as long as I get what I pay for. I have some front axle issues to deal with after I get my rear axle work done. I was just lining up a place to buy parts just in case.
