New Knobs for Dash

Hey Im doing a CJ restoration and bought the chrome knobs for my dash....They fit fine onto the wiper switch, heat switch. As for the headlight and air controls (def and air) that have the cable connected, does anyone know how to get the old knob off without destroying the cable? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks so much everyone

I had to cut them off with a razor knife. I used a set of needle nose channel locks. Pull the cable out an inch or so, lock the channel locks on the cable by the dash, then cut the knob off.

Okay thanks i figured thats all i had to do.....the knobs i have have the tiney hex key bolt...they will screw right onto the cable and hold okay??

The end of the cable where the knob connects is a steel rod. It's easiest to see on the top cable in the picture.



I have the exact same knobs, once you get them lined up correctly and tighten them down, they don't go anywhere.

Are you suggesting to cut the knob itself in order to get it off, rather than some part of the shaft?

Yes, cut the knob, it's only rubber and plastic glued to the end of the rod.

Ok, thank you! So the knobs are molded right onto the cable, not attached in a way that they can be removed without cutting.
