Hi all. Just registered for this site. I recently purchased a "Franken-jeep" and am trying to get it running. It appears from the research it is a 1945ish Willys MB but the motor serial number on the engine is for a CJ3a . It is an L 134 engine. It kinda ran when I got it but was real hard starting. I put in a new electronic distributer and coil, new solex carburetor and a new fuel pump. It had a old electric fuel pump on it that was full of sand so figured the fuel system was probably contaminated so decided to change out what I could.

I am pretty sure the distributer is in right as there is only one way to put it in with the slot. I have had another friend make sure the plugs wires are right.

I put a Holey pressure regulator on the fuel line and set as near as possible to 2 pounds but it still floods and fills the intake manifold with raw fuel.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome :chug: I'm not familiar with the solex carb, but it sounds like the float is too high. Maybe stuck needle/seat?

Since you found sand in the fuel pump, I would suggest cleaning out the entire fuel system, starting with the fuel tank.

Solex is a French carb manufacturer. I thought they only made scooter carbs, though.

My Solex was flooding and it was due to a stuck float/needle valve. I open the float bowl and got the it unstuck - no more flooding.

Thanks for the thoughts. I did completely flush out the tank and new fuel lines before installing the new fuel pump and carburetor. I put the Solex on to replace the one that was on it.

Thanks for the advice.

And you have to peddle it to get it going :D

No No No that would be moped mileage.

Peddle to start = moped
pull a rop to start = mini bike
kick or electric start with motor suspended on rear swing arm = Scooter
Sore leg from kick starting + standing on the side of the road = Harley-Davidson

Keeping you guys straight is a constant effort...... :)

Wouldn't that be

fractured bones, extensive soft tissue damage from kick starting + curled in fetal position on side of the road = Harley-Davidson

?

I would give a call to Walcks 4wd. Great guys to deal with. Google it. I haven't gotten savvy enough with this phone yet to provide a link

My H-D really didn't kick back enough to hurt, but my BSA was another story all together. I still hurt just thinking about it.

You forgot, "no toes, from riding in flip-flops"...
