I had a leaky water pump so I got a brand spankin' new one from NAPA. I had replaced the thermostat around September and the system was working fine until the new water pump. After running to idle, the top hose is very hot, none of the heater / manifold hoses seem to be warm at all, and the reservoir went from full to overflowing. Does this have something to do with a need to burp the system, or is my new pump not working? After cooling for a bit I took the cap off and the reservoir went down to just above the full level. Any ideas? If I need to burp the system, what is the best way? Should I just take one of the higher hoses off of the manifold and see if I can pour some water straight down in it?
To further complicate things my temperature gauge has never worked. I just want to make sure I'm not going to cook my engine or anything.
