No 4H

I can get it up into 4L, down to neutral, down to 2H, but can't get it into 4H. It feels like it wants to go but just won't go far enough to engage. Your thoughts please!

First thing to look at is for worn out linkage.

If it has a body lift you may need to do some trimimg to get it to go all the way into 4H. Have you taken the boot off to see if it will go or if its hitting the floor?

It has a suspension lift but I'll take the boot off to get a better look at it. Guess I've found a project for next week.

Ok, the linkage looks to be ok and little sloppy but not enough to worry about just yet, shifter isn't restricted by any part of the tub.
I was able to get it 4H with the tranny in 1st and slowly letting off the clutch, it would go in 4H. Will not go in 4H with tranny in neutral. Is that normal?

Thats not uncommon I normally from 2H to 4H moving. The only time you want to be stopped is when you go into 4L.

Ok thanks for the info, that's the way it is in my daily driver but I wasn't sure how the jeep worked.
