While I was purchasing my 79 there were a couple parts that were available as well. There was a Offenhauser intake along with the small (390 cfm?) Holley there as well. The 79 has that little 1 BBL carb and intake. Supposedly worth about 25 HP but do they work with the stock exhaust? I'm hoping to go with a 360 but I still have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l in the 80. If it's not going to be a major pain I'll grab it. Anyone familiar with this set up?

I have it on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and it works fine. By stock exhaust, are you referring to stock exhaust manifold? I have headers so I cannot speak to that. But I do like the holley and offy combo. More response than the stock set up that was on it before, but that engine had issues and I installed a rebuilt engine and had the intake and carb installed at the same time.

I've got a 390/offenhauser combo with a pace setter header heavy crank and block and gm 305 pistons with a 435/300 behind it and its quit possibly the most enjoyable combo ever.

Ok guys thanks alot. I'm pretty sure I'll grab the set up. I'm going to do a little more research but I'm pretty sure it only works with a header and not either style exhaust manifold.

I think you are right. But I have the headers that came with mine if you want them. I got new borla headers.

Thanks. Let me make sure I grab it then we'll talk. I figured out how to stop the snow storms. This latest one screwed up my Uship ad to get the 79 here. You'll probably remember the last snow storm you had down there earlier this Winter? That's when I had my Uship ad up to pick up the 80 in Va. No more Uship ads this year lol.

It depends on what model number the intake it is Pete, if it's a 5999DP it will work with the stock exhaust manifold. I'd have to dig a little more, but there is one out there that only works with a header. Here's the link to their website, the pictures and descriptions are a little vague but it should help.

I'm not going to open up the can of worms that it is running a 4 barrel carb on a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l  Let's just say I ran one for quite a while on mine and I loved it.

Not a problem. I think i know where I stashed it in the garage. I will make sure it stays there until we talk.

Well they aren't cheap. Considering I can get the headers from Gr8dain I'm going to see what he wants for it. Thanks guys

I will try to get you pics this weekend. And they would be shipping only. Unless you want to meet me at Rausch in July or I can have someone else going there before that. Whatever. Depends on how fast you would want them, if at all.

Sounds like a good idea to meet up at Rausch. We'll figure it out.

:chug:

Hey Pete. I looked all over the garage for the headers. Could not find them. Sorry. FYI. They were for dual exhaust. I remembered that yesterday.

No problem. I figured they were for dual exhaust when you said header(s). I'd prefer single outlet anyway but wasn't going to complain for the price. Still up for Rusch in July though. :chug:

Yeah. I remembered why I did not use them after the engine install. It was either run dual exhaust, get a collector y pipe, or buy a new header. I chose the last option.
