The other day when I got into my 82 I6 CJ8 I discovered that I have yet another oil leak, however this time it is leaking into the cab off center towards the passenger side. Looking in the engine compartment, I notice a vent tube attached to the firewall and believe it might be coming from here. I haven't been able to trace where this tube goes so if anyone know that would be great. The big question though is why would I be leaking out of the vent tube? Last oil change I changed only the engine oil but nothing else. Thanks for your help!

Possible leaking mechanical oil gauge line? There should be vent tubes for all gear boxes, but they should not be in the cab.

my bad, the vent tube is not in the cab but in the engine compartment. It is leaking through the firewall. Also i do not have any mechanical gauges

Have you looked at the back of your oil guage and made sure you don't have a oil line going to it? Just making sure its about the only way you would have oil in the tub there.

It is not engine coolant and I have rechecked the oil gauge and it is not mechanical. It looks like a vent hose that is a attached to the firewall in the engine compartment might be the problem but I do not know why oil would be overflowing out of the vent tube and I do not know what the tube is venting.

Have u been driving and this just started or a new to you Jeep? Maybe the vent for differential or tranny. Maybe got water in from wheeling or something?

Just finished a frame-off of an 81 CJ7 and I recall the hose you are talking about with the vented top. On mine it was the vent line for either the Transmission or Transfer Case (been a couple weeks since I looked). It was secures by a metal hose clamp near the top of the firewall just off-center on the passenger side.

I have not gone through any water CJ007. I have had the jeep for the last 8yrs and this is a new one for me. I know my winch leaks, my engine leaks, and now the vent hose that rcoles871 pointed out. I guess I will start with the Transfer Case and see what the fluid looks like. Thanks for the direction!

rcoles is correct. I believe it's the Transfer Case vent hose that goes up that side. This means your fluid level is way too high. Check your speedo cable and make sure it's connected tight. Somehow fluid got in to raise the level, or it's got water in it and is getting so hot internally that evaporation is carrying the oil/water mix up and out. Is it a large amount or just an accumulation?
That's my best guess.
