Old CJ NADA values

Hi all. I was looking at used car values using NADA today and just for kicks, thought I would look up my 1976 CJ7 . I'm sure there must be an error in the way NADA calculated the value, perhaps an incorrect algorithm....LOL, dont know but, check this out, or try it yourself. Rick

I was hoping for some comments here, good, bad, and the ugly. When I saw this NADA value, I was shocked, thought many others would be as well.

once a vehicle gets several years old,the condition varies widely.So,I don't put a lot of stock in book values..It's worth whatever someone will give you..

I know. I would imagine my 76 CJ7 might bring $2500 on a great day. Still shocked at the NADA values for the older CJ5 's and 7's though. And like I said....I was just plain shocked. My neighbor has a 1970 CJ5 , and the high retail was $18,000. Just something to talk about...nothing else.

There was once a rule of thumb that once a car got to be over 10 years old it was worth $50. Maybe some of the older guys will remember that one.

unless it is rusted out,I bet it would bring more than 2500

It has a little bit of frame rust, and could use a quarter panel, otherwise, not bad. I will make those repairs when it warms up. It would be very difficult for me to sell it, the auto Transmission , the AMC 360, to me, would be difficult to find another like it, around my area here in East TN.....and....I just really like the old thing.

The downside of NADA values. Some states use the NADA to hand out sales tax regardless what you paid for it. I've found and purchased many older CJ's over the years in the free to $500 range, doesn't matter what you paid, or if the floors are rotted out some have to pay sales tax on NADA value which could be anywhere from $4000 to $7000. Of course they tell you that your able to apply for a rebate which they will never approve.

Im a Craigslist junkie and I see some nice Cjs , but alot of junk selling high as well.

The number of new or newer car buyers far outweigh the antique buyers.

I once paid $300 for a 46 Flattie and the State wanted $312 sales tax.

That is messed up. Here the sales tax is based on what you paid for it like it should be.

I remember buying my first Jeep from my dad for the price "Big Mac". The lady at the DMV said no matter how low we set the price, the system said $50 and that is what the tax was based on.

The world use to revolve around $50 cars, then they became $500 cars, now aren’t they $2500 or is it more? Washington State does the tax on value thing too. Even if you have a bill of sale if they deem the price too far off of book value it’s on you to justify the lower value.

Seems like Gieco informed me that they go by KBB. Well, KBB doesn't go back but so far…… wishful thinking would be what it cost to replace… Ga goes by price on the title, its up to the seller and buyer to figure that amount ..
