 and.....

Well thanks alot you guys. You made me go and buy a Jeep.

Got there and talked with Bill who is a older fella and a truck driver. Between our two schedules I wont be able to pick it up till next Saturday though. We shook hands ( he wouldnt take a deposit ) and he put in his garage. :chug:

I took a 3 lb hammer and screwdriver with and went over the frame. Its flakey in the rear by the shackles but still solid. I had mentioned the finicky Carter BBD carb on the phone and he assured me the motor would be cold when I got there. He made me check it and it was definately cold to the touch. I wont lie 3 pumps of the pedal and it turned over but stalled. Another bump of the key revealed the smoothest running all emissions there AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I have ever heard. It was about 25 degrees out.

The bad part is the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l doesnt hold oil pressure on longer trips , like 50 miles or more. Work is only 13 miles away and Im only going to drive it a little anyway. Im thinking cam bearings and will look into a short block rebuild. Other than that it seems mechanically sound.

The body tub had some floors replaced but they were done pretty nicely. I didnt get any pics but dont worry you'll see plenty once I get it home.

The parts list is pretty nice as well. The original Limited seats come with it!! The front buckets are a bit dirty but I didnt see any rips. Id get these cleaned by a pro. Theres also a complete set of YJ seats as well. He also has the "Limited " emblems , carpet and some nice Jeep center caps.

I tried $1200 before I saw the other stuff he was giving me. Then I felt like a real jerk. His asking price is worth it to me. The deal is done.

Thanks for spending my money guys. :notworthy:

Your are very welcome, enjoy your new Jeep. I am looking at a 1959 FC 170 so you guys can help me spend my money!!!!:):)

Congrats Pete! Your back in the game!

As for the oil pressure, the Scrambler had the same problem so I just popped in another oil pump. I have gone about 75 or so miles since then an only had a small drop in pressure. Might want to try that first. ;)

If you wouldve said FC AMC 150 I may have let you off the hook. But you have metal working skills ( which without seeing it I still think youll need ;) ) and the longer wheelbase makes it too  to pass up

75 miles? Jeez drive that puppy more. :D Point taken though. Once I get it here and can go over it a bit more alot of decisions will be made. I just didnt think it would be right to let this go to a 16 yr old kid to beat up at $1500.

At the very worst I'll find someone who needs the special pieces for their restoration and use this as a build platform for my trail rig. There will be alot of thinking going on here pretty soon. :wtf:

looking forward to this weekend's report :beer:

This isnt the Cj thats in "our" plans. It just came up. :) Its all Vickis fault. She cant keep her eyes in her head when Jeeps are involved. God I love her. :chug: Im still grabbing something more appropriate for KY. Stay tuned. :)

Naw - I have put about 2K miles on it so far. :)
After a bit once I hit about 50 miles on a trip the oil pressure would drp to 5 psi or so. I replaced the oil pump and so far I have made a few 75 mile trip and the oil pressure has only dropped about 5 psi from the start and run pressure of 45 psi or so... :)

Congrats Pete...look at the bright side, most of us would have to beg and deal with the other half to bring home another no matter how great a deal it was...or store it somewhere else...no that I have done that...

What is this 'other half' you all so much speak of? Is it like the mythical 'snow' you all speak about?

Just like only different :D

Congrats! Glad you kept a classic on the road, so many get scraped these days.....

This won't be too expensive Dear! That's what I keep saying. Over and over again.

That may be a good sign. Thats pretty much what the guy described to me.

She still wants me to get another one. An auto so she can drive as well. Im working some more overtime to get a nicer one. Just couldnt pass on the Limited though.

Started running through the plans in my head from 3 am - 3pm while at work.

I'll start a build thread once I pick her up this weekend. I should say that after looking at her more and deciding wich way to go this will be a Resto - Mod not a restoration. Ive always loved the Silver Mist and will give it the "Limited " treatment. I'll keep as much of the Limited accents as possible but build it up for moderate trails.

After being on here for the last few years reading tech threads and watching some really nice builds its time I take on a frame off build. Im ready.

Pete, forgive me if you have answered this before or just don't think it an appropriate question but why not just teach Vick o drive a stick? If it is a physical limitation I more than understand.... (says the man who can't open a soda bottle sometimes ;) )
