I have a 1980 CJ7 . I've replaced the turn signal switch in the column only to have the lever strip out again.
I have a 3 position switch. Left, Center, Right. Center is off and the left or right have normally open and normally closed contacts. I want to wire the in dash switch to operate my turn signals and eliminate the turn signal lever altogether. I'm OK with leaving the guts in the steering column but i'm tired of the lever just flopping around. I already know that the self cancel feature won't work. I am aware that this isn't recommended. This is the way that I would like to do it. I just need some insight on the wiring to make this work.

Thought?

Here is the 1980 FSM. It has a wiring diagram to show you which wires to splice into.
I understand your frustration but your CJ uses a standard GM steering column. Where are you getting the switch from? That is not a normal issue.

The one I used as a replacement is an Omix brand. I THINK it was from Quadratec. The switch I want to put in is a simple switch with 2 separate commons, 2 separate n/o, 2 separate n/c and two connections for the internal LED backlight. I don’t care about the N/C or the backlighting.
I think the trick to this is going to be the brake lights.

100% correct. The brake lights are going to be the issue.
I do have a suggestion though. Stop buying the omix Chinese junk and get a good heavy duty replacement from someone who has a real heavy duty replacement like NAPA
I understand that omix makes it easy to find a replacement but there is no reason for your troubles. There are hundreds of millions of GM steering columns out there that do not share your issues.

That most likely is ok. That is the complete harness but it doesn't help with your broken lever.
