When installing the backing plate to the axle flange should a person use flat washers? When pressing the bearing and collar on should a person do the bearing and collar separate. Should a person use oil when pressing? Thanks for any help

Yes to all.
BTW-A piece of steel pipe works well for 'installing' the collar and bearing.

Lumpy or anyone else know the backing plate torque I seem to remember 35#. Any suggestions on were to obtain a copy of the service manuals?

If, in fact the fasteners are gd 8. Then torque to 35 ft/lbs.
Don't forget to use sealer on the flanges and backing plate to keep water out and the grease in.

I am a idiot I came home after work and pressed on my bearing only to realize I had the backing plate on backwards. Then to add insult to injury I put a few steel specks in to my wrist getting it off with the chisel. Now to source a bearing and pay through the nose for it. For what ever reason those bearings up here are big bucks.

Your NOT the first, nor will YOU be the last.;)
IMHO-You should order the bearings from the axle maker.
I would keep a spare set of bearings and seals on hand.

O know it can't stop there I bust my cooling system on my work car. Had a by buddy flat deck it home. Later I just wanted to go for a ride in my good CJ and when I hopped in I cut the seat with my cell phone. I must have been a jerk in my other life paying for it now. Has anyone ever had their vinyl fixed by one of the fibrenew people or someone that fixes vinyl?
