To bad you aren't closer. Getting ready to sell my wife's 96 Cherokee with 4.0 HO with just over 100K miles and runs good. Was just time for her to get something a lot newer.

So, I am going to look at a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l for sale. The ad says it has fuel injection. I believe it to be the Carter BBD carb that is a computer controlled with a stepper motor

They want a $1000.

I will be doing a leak down test, checking the spark plugs and checking the oil for glitter.

So, they sold it before I could get there. Oh well. Will 2004 grand Cherokee I6 4.0L fit?

4.0 is a 4.0 I have not heard anyone say different

Just concerned about wiring

Well, I ended up with a 91 yj 4.0L that is a stroker motor. Should be interesting to see how this works once it cools off. Only 114 yesterday.

Finally got the XJ motor into place. A few more adjustments and it will be home.d2df9b840961997907ea12313c29ddba.jpg

Finally had time to start the process of placing the engine in its forever home. See this thread about immediate struggles.

I will picking up new bolts and putting the engine on the engine mouts this weekend. I will have to wait to to permanently install the motor because I am waiting for dowel pins from the engine to the bell housing to arrive. Apparently, these are important. ;)

Finally, the motor is home. For now, next I need to put dowel pins for bell housing to the motor. The PO didn't have them installed for the previous motor, AMC 232 i6 . I got lucky nothing broke.

With stroker 4.0L that I am putting in they will be important. They are shipped and I will brave the heat and put them in when they get here.ef4746c33cf48dfc45a1a43267e5a50f.jpg1c5be707d512f5c2106a302f80baa708.jpgd1f9abd2b27563eb5d55ac32f72bb045.jpg

The 4.0L engie is finally in its place. My son andI put in dowel pins, remated the tranny and the motor, reinstalled the motor mounts and bolted the motor mount to the motor mount brackets. Very proud to have my son along side learning and turning wrenches.

Nice work so far. I'm 2 years into mine, and it's going slow. I need the distraction, and motivation...

I have the same problem. Next up is wiring. The XJ motor wiring harness kinda scares me so I will doing research the whole summer. May even bring it into the house to puzzle it out. I am only using the XJ wiring harnes and ECU for engine management. We will see how much my wife likes a dusty old wiring harness in the house on her dining room table. Lol.

Well... the garage probably doesn't have AC so...

Nope, no A/C.100+ temps in AZ are coming this week. I didn't mention in my post but I also installed power steering gear box from the same XJ. I may intall the A/C bracket in the power steering pump and reservoir bracket.

Going to get custom power hoses this morning. Hose Depot in Phoenix,AZ is where I am going. The owner is opening his shop on Saturday morning at 0900 to make me a couple of hoses. I can't say how much I appreciate his customer service.108363cdfb70a2d42ab04393058776ae.jpg
