Build Thread Operation Sky Blue Water Trip Build
I've got Flow Masters and cats on the '75. Believe me, after a while you'll hear that AMC 304 rumble at speed too. I'm still getting used to living with a Jeep that rumbles and bumbles it way down the road. :)

Well I don't seem to hear it much, even without top. It was 61 here the day I got it back and I took it in town to get something at the grocery and it was fine. I guess that since there are 15 different Flowmaster street models that experiences may vary.

I "think" this is a 50 Delta Flow, but I'll find out for sure here shortly.

Great point. There are about a million or so ( low number guess ) differently tuned human ears as well. If you enjoy it its all good. :D Ive been watching this thread just havent commented till now. Bad experiences with Hamms way back. :barf:

Different exhaust systems sound amazingly different. Mine started out (the PO's set-up) with the duel exhaust exiting directly out the back along the frame. That was way to much noise, but mostly to much exhaust being sucked into the cab. I cut mine back and turned them out by the rear wheels. With a small change like that the Jeep sounds remarkably different. Quieter, less "in your face" a lot more "Okay I'll do what you ask".

Yeah, I either wanted it to sound virtually quiet, or at most sound like it had a V8 when it idled. I didn't want something the neighbors heard every time it fired up or came in our out of the neighborhood nor did I want to go deaf.

With the 45/45 bends dumping out behind the rear tire it's odorless too.

Well I've ran into a few snags with both the Jeep and family matters. The Jeep has had cooling issues so I'm still sorting that out. Had the block soaked and reflushed. Had the radiator boiled out and repaired and pressure tested and I'm replacing the water pump, fan clutch and all belts and hoses tomorrow. I believe the cooling issue is fixed but I did find a leak around the pump so I'm doing the rest as well while I'm there.

I have also been looking for a low dollar lift solution and I bought a used 2.5" lift and some OME shocks off the CJ8 board and when I got them I figured out why he wasn't happy with it. It was a 4" lift with stock length shocks. He wasn't getting the sag out of the rear of his 8 and that's why. Anyway I have the 4" Rugged Ridge springs on Craigslist. They're nearly new. I'm keeping the OME shocks though and I've settled on a Warrior 2" shackle lift for the front. I've done some measuring and this should level me out and give the 31" Destination MT's room up front. More pics this weekend and later this week.

Darn Im sorry they werent as advertised. :( I have a set of 4 springs here I was told are 4in. Im not convinced. Get some measurements from yours and I'll do the same. I think mine are 2.5 in. Maybe we can swap if things work out?

Oh hey it's no big deal. I'm not upset at anyone - even the guy I got them from.

I'll measure from eyehole to eyehole and then the arch radius. I know these are 4s as the part number on them is on Quadratecs site as such.

EDIT - fronts 41.5 on eyelets. 8.75 on arch.

Well I sold the springs off CL in no time so that's a good thing. Now I think I'm going to do some measuring this weekend.

I need a up to a couple of inches up front, plain and simple. I plan to put on one of my 31's up front and measure from top of the tread to the bottom of the fender; then jack up the front bumper so that that number increases by 1 inch and see how it looks, then by 2 inches. I can't go more than 2 inches with a shackle lift and really don't want to do a body lift as I know I'll get into more work than I want.

I am changing shocks as a part of this - should I put the new shocks on BEFORE I go to measuring? I should shouldn't I...?

I did my measuring and my existing 235/75-15's are at about 28.5" high, my new 31's are exactly 31. So that's 2.5" total and 1.25" radius so that's going to put the new tire 1.25" closer to the fender so I guess I'll be okay with 1" shackle lift and these new shocks. I think 2" would look better but everyone has me scared of 2" on the shackle alone.

I managed to slightly damage my radiator that I've had so much work done on. They told me it was thin in places - now I know that's true. I have a new radiator to put in this weekend and will "try" to get to the shocks as well.

I have run 31's on all my stock CJs with no problems.

Good deal. I just need to get used to the visual of it.

Got the new radiator in today and clamped down my new vacuum lines. I don't have an overflow bottle and I just read I do need one so I have a post on here to see what I can use.

Looking good! :D

I saw the title of this post and thought wow going to Minnesota. Hamms was always a Minnesota beer until they moved to Milwaukee.

From Wikipedia:

Hamm's Bear[edit]
Main article: Hamm's Bear
Even more famous than the jingle was the Hamm's Bear. The bear was incorporated into the first campaign produced by the Campbell Mithun advertising agency, which sought to emphasize the supposedly superior cleanliness and naturality of Hamm's beer owing to its clear water and production in pristine Minnesota, the "enchanted Northland." The first television commercial depicted animated beavers beating their tails to the tom-tom beat of the jingle, as well as live action shots of the forests and lakes of the "enchanted Northland." The second, produced in 1952, introduced the clumsy dancing black-and-white cartoon "Beer Bear," actually named "Sascha," which proved so popular it was used for the next three decades. The "Beer Bear" and other woodland creatures were seen many afternoons as Hamm's was the beer sponsor of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, and Minnesota Twins in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

But the trip sounds fun to Telluride! :D

I'm thinking Operation Coors.....

Installed a one-size-fits-all overflow tank and cooling / leaking issues are now gone. Now it's back to the brakes. Pedal won't return, Jeep won't stop, fronts bind and won't release, blah, blah, blah. I did bench bleed the new MC so I'm going to replace it given its under warranty. The brakes were far better with the leaky original MC and leaky booster. Then it's on to bleeding. If I have to replace these nearly new calipers I'm doing the kit to go to Chevy calipers. Easier to replace.

Long time, no update - but doing the new/replacement master cylinder this weekend, then have someone coming to help me convert to a 78-79 style Duraspark ignition on Tuesday (my Prestolite is literally held on with a brown shoestring).

More info and pics to follow this week...

:chug:

Lots of work today but very little accomplished. I did manage to replace my stock cigarette lighter with a dual unit from Walmart. Then wired up my CB.

Next I replaced my master cylinder and STILL have no pedal return with engine running. Seems fine with engine off. ODD. I have a thread open on this in Chassis and Body.

No work done on brakes but I did get my ignition upgraded to a '79 style with a Ford Duraspark setup. Special thanks to JunkYardGenius for coming over and doing this himself.

My plug wires are on the way and then we will time it and then I can cross it off the list.

Brake work this week and the rest of the Destination MT's as well.

Just a quick update. I just finished moving and once the boxes are empty there will be space for the Jeep. I do have the ignition upgraded.

Ordering a set of Mosers this week and my 1" lift shackles.

I have my new GoPro and have modified the housing to allow it to be charged while recording and still be weatherproof. I should have a nice setup with an interesting perspective that's a pleasure to view.

More to follow...

Did a little more cosmetic work as I only had a short time to work.

Cleaned up the insides of my front parking/signal lamps. Also bought new lenses.

Scuff pad and some Brilliant Silver rattle paint and they're new again.

So I got my new lenses for the signals I just painted and one of them had the OEM silver/chrome edge, the other one did not.........

Sending the clear one back and just hoping for the right one next time. Got my MityVac out and bled out the brakes...they're "better" but not where they should be. I can't get the MityVac to seal properly on the bleeders so it's hard to get them bled out right - going to have to go two-man on this to get them right.

While out testing the brakes I lost a stud where the manifold and the downpipe meet so I have a nice leak there with an even nicer annoying rattle - So it's back to the muffler shop for a little warranty work.

For those of you who don't know - my wife and I are expecting a baby literally any minute -so Jeep work vs. house work has become a delicate balance. Most things are on hold until the dust settles on that end, then it's a race to the finish for departure to Colorado.
