Ha! That's awesome!
It's amazing what you can find on Ebay as well...
On an unrelated note, I've made a short list of my winter work. I'm taking the Jeep back out to Colorado in July of next year and I'm going to need to address a few things...
Compete re-tune of ignition and carburetor. I had it "decent" for my 700' elevation, but that equated to not-so-decent at 7800'-12000'. I've learned that while we are all aware of how the thinner air changes your air/fuel mix, but those changes also require ignition changes as well. I need to find a happy medium, and there is one - these Jeeps ran fine in Colorado when driven off the dealer's lot. Just need to find that sweet spot.
I fixed my failed
Transmission line, but I'm going to replace the other one as well and install a separate
Transmission cooler.
I'm removing all my stock AC equipment. It's not used and it's in the way at present. Not junking it, just pulling it off for now. This will also allow for more air flow into the radiator.
I'm adding a YJ conversion, 2.5" OME lift kit. Looking at the Rocky-Road kit partially detailed here -
Jeep CJ OME lift
I need to fix my fuel tank. It's new, but somehow I managed to get a leak in the top of it while in Colorado. Not sure where or why or how, but should be easy enough to fix. I'm sure once it's down I'll want a 20 gallon poly...we'll see.
I need to figure out how to minimize the rattle and bang of my stock tire carrier. I see one adjustment (tailgate bumper) that I've failed to make, perhaps that will be enough in-and-of-itself.
Now for the "maybe" list...
Re-gear to 3.54's... I have 2.72's that are great on the highway, and in low range I could go anywhere I wanted in the mountains - but that said I couldn't go anywhere on the highway at altitude and when I did it got too hot. I know that the engine tuning above will help this, not sure if it will eliminate it. I'm sure if I do the gears I'll drop in some Spartan lockers as well...
Replace all gauges... This is a growing pet-peeve of mine. I didn't care much in until someone on here posted the stuff that SpeedHut makes, now it seems I can't go without having the entire set. Thanks whoever!
