Pop the plastic pivot covers to get to the mechanics.
The pivot cover is #9 in the image below. The clip (#22) holding long wiper pivot arm (#17) to the drivers side pivot (#19) probably came loose. Or the pass side pivot could have broken.

thank you. that is an awesome view of the workings. turns out neither wipers are working. when i turn on the switch they jump and make a poping noise like stripped teeth? gonna get the windshield down if it stops raining and see what i can find.
