people who come in to part stores

people who come in to part stores
Wow That's it lol
I had a guy try to describe and draw and everything else imaginable a part for about 10 minutes one day, wouldn't give the name of the part or tell me what it did, just kept trying to describe it. (of course i was assuming he didn't know the name or what it did) I just wasn't getting his very bad description so I hollared for Tony, He looks at Tony and says do you guys stock keyways? :bang: Are you freaking kiddin me? If you would have said that 10 minutes ago..................

I have been the 'parts/tool girl' for 15 years. I am the one who goes into the parts store with only half the info (why do we need to know if the truck is 4 wheel drive for a flippin' wiper motor?) but I always carry my phone or I used to guess. :) Then he started sending the part with me....

Anyway, Saturday, I pissed off a salesman at a used car lot. There was an older Dakota sitting there. He started and I told him to turn it off. It sounded as bad as the minivan, and I let him know it. But then I told him that the windshield leaks. He asked me how I knew. I laughed and told him that the moisture on the inside was a clear indication, but the silicone in spots around it was another.

I have found 3 parts people that I like. My NAPA guy Corey, some dorky guy at AutoZone, and Ryan at ORielly's. If I dont get them, I dont get a part.

Im the same way as you Susie, I only have one guy i will get parts from at certain places, but we dont have an autozone anymore and NAPA is way to pricey for me and O'reillys has either a bunch of older people who dont know jack or kids who dont know anything so I go to my guy at Car Quest, Delvin the manager haha ill go in just to say hi half the time if i havent been there in a long time like over 3 weeks ha

I unfortunately have to deal with tards no matter where I go.
Hence the reason I look up the part#.

I walk in.
-Can I help you?
Do you have part# blah?
-What's it for?
It's for a 302
-What's the vehicle?
(Ugh, here we go) it's a 302 in a '82 Jeep CJ7 .
-I show that part to be for a ford.
I know, do you have one in stock?
-Yes but it wont work on your jeep.
It's for a 302, do you have the part.
-Yes, But it wont work on a jeep!!
Seriously, first it's my jeep and I know what it has in it.
Second it will work cause it's a ford 302 in a jeep.
Third just get the freaking part. I don't have time for this.
-Ok but it's not gonna work!
Just get the damn part!

I walk out the jeep, with him right behind me, I'm like WTF?!
So I open the hood and go what motor is this smart guy?
-It's a 350?!?!
No it's a ford 302.
I've only told you 3 or 4 times, now go away.

Oh and don't even try to get something like a chevy brake line.
I asked for a brake line for a '79 chevy blazer.
They asked me a dozen questions before I finally just walked out.
If you ask for a part dealing with the dist. or a MC2100 you might
as well sign yourself up for anger management classes your gonna need it.

5 parts stores and I can never get a part without playing 20 questions,
even when I give them the part#. WTF?

I'm moving to ohio, so I can get a part without getting the grief.

LOL brock I had that problem, now I just tell them " lets just call it a AMC 304 , OK?"

Have one guy at NAPA who I deal with. Used to go to Murray's before they became O'Reilly's and hired new people. Now it is just not worth it.

Like a lot of you, my Jeep is a collection of parts from different years/vehicles. At O'Reilly's all they want to do is be able to look it up on the computer in an exact order.

Guy at NAPA is good, helps me a lot on the CJ7 plus is used to me getting stuff for my '49 Chevy Pickup (not stock either).

Actually had him laugh at me the other day when I ordered parts for a 'stock' vehicle. Wanted to know who it belonged to.

Only deal with NAPA and one sales person who knows his stuff
one of the things he knows dont question what I ask for :D

oh it can be worse, I keep a book on each jeep, just what parts are in there. So I go in looking for a set of disc from a 95 chevy 2500 front.
E
what engine do you have?
A dauntliss 225 V6
They do not show that engine in a 95 2500
oh, ah ok check a 97
no not in a 97 either
Really, you mean they do not put Buick engines in Chevy trucks
I do not know but not those years'
OK then just give me the pads
But I do not know which ones to give you
Give me whatever shoes up when you look at a chevy 2500
I need an engine please
why, they are brakes, just put in any engine
but what if you do not have that engine in your truck
I do not own a truck, they are for a 67 Jeep CJ5
oh, let me look, (types in the computer a bit) I do not show a 67 Jeep came with Disc Brakes
No It did not, now can I get the brake pads
But Sir,
Listen, they only made one set of disc for a 95 chevy, put in any engine you want it comes up with the same number, then give them to me so I can put them on my Jeep
But sir, your jeep does not have Disc brakes
Wanna go out front and see them, yes it does, I converted them myself, now will you get me the pads
Ok Sir, what engine is in your Jeep?
None, I converted it over to a electric engine. with a self winding extension chord.

hey brock move here and ill hook you up lol :D

it cracks me up at work when the college kids ask for what size engine for light bulbs.

o and i love it when people bring part #s in. makes my job so much easier :D

Omg I feel the need to oppologize for all the idiots who work at part stores lol. Heck you all even have part numbers or vehicle that they can find the right part off of. Dream customers I tell ya.

Hey when it comes to cars it goes both ways.

Me and the old man are at a car show, I guy walks up and says that's a nice '56 chevy.
Dad says no it's a '56 Ford.
The guy then says no it's a chevy you've done work to it, chopped it up.
Dad says yeah your right, I chopped it completely apart and melted it down
then used the melted iron to restamp and recast it into all ford parts so I could
have the '56 Ford i've always wanted.
The guy asks why would you do that to a nice old car, then walks away.

I swear people don't die of natural causes, they just finally heard something so
stupid their brain refuses to accept it and shuts down.

I managed to last 3 months as a counterperson at a great parts store back in 1984.
Back then there were no computers to look in just a hundred different parts catalogs.
I couldn't take the idiots on the phone that I had to help first while good customers were waitng.

that is one thing i hate with our company. we have to answer the phones no matter what. this in turn pisses the person off in front of you and they walk out and you just kissed money good bye. i always answer the phone and get the info and tell them i will be back with them in a minute.

I am the parts manager at a gm dealership ( at least untill last week part of the dealership cut now trying to inventory 75000 dollars worth of parts and find someone to buy them) just gm and have people all the time coming in with ford and chrysler and toyotas looking for parts. and people that dont speak english and i dont speak spanish or walk up with something in their hand and say i need one of these. its crazy

Paul, I worked as the parts Manager for the largest GM dealership in the country way back in the 80's (Fountain Oldsmobile). i can definitely relate! We had crazy people come in and then get irate when we couldn't help them.

I did enjoy inventory scrap day though... ;) Kinda weird, not all of the scrapped inventory made it to the trash bin... ;)

That's called relocated inventory

Dalefan, I imagine you at least let the customer in front of you know he's still there. Went in yesterday to pick up a new set of plug wires and coil. Fellow behind the counter found the stock numbers pretty quick, gave me the prices - then the phone rang. OK, fairly short conversation - then it rings again. Longer conversation. Third time it rings and my patience is about gone, because the whole time the guy is staring off into space like I'm not even there. Two minutes to pull the parts - 15 minutes of wasting my time. IF I ever go back to that store ... naw, I don't think so.

Did the same thing at a Chevy dealer.
Besides inventory scrap, I liked the weird things people would throw away.

A guy came in with a caddy he bought 2 days before and asked to have
an exhaust kit installed. When asked what to do with his old exhaust he
said throw it away.

Caddy exhausts are expensive btw. You know my old '80 GMC sounded pretty good with that caddy dual exhaust after a few tweaks to get it to fit of course.
