Did a pine sol soak on a gummed up carb. Came out great! But a few hours later I noticed some surface rust, I was curious what you guys use to oil the carb I have heard spraying it with WD-40,and soaking it in diesel fuel. ?

 I have never heard of soaking a carb in Pine Sol or a carb rusting. Can't wait to see what respones you get.

Rust on a carb? That's a new one.

I've boiled small engine carbs in lemon juice. Does a good job of getting the goop out. If you have surface rust on the springs and venturi plates I'd hose it down with some WD 40.

I soaked for two days, came out great I rinsed it with water then hit it with carb cleaner for good measure then sprayed it with some wd40. Been about a week and still looks great!

So, no rust? Probably just gunk dried on after the soaking.

i try to never use household cleaning products on a vehicle or engine, certainly not any metal components, most household products like pine sol and windex will cause whats called hydrogen embrittlement.

So is myocardial infarction but it is deadly. Where as many of the metals used in carbs are not readily suseptible to this phenomena, different carb manufacturers use metals that are. Interesting concept! Can it happen? Don't know but it does make me think twice about using a process that strays from the tried and true. Hope it works for you.

Whooooo big words being thrown around!

Involuntary flatuation is something you should be afraid of. ;) Voluntary isnt all that great either depending on your vantage point.

I've used it on motorcycle carbs with good success. It does tend to dry out the gaskets a little, but they'll swell up in short time. There's all kinds of success stories on the internet. It's a good way to clean the carb and not mess up the gaskets.
