Problem getting fuel

Hi, I have a 1982 CJ7 iv brought in the last few weeks, it’s been sat around a while before I got it. I managed to start it over the weekend but it will not run from the tank, if I put the feed pipe in to a can the fuel pump will suck and work fine but if I put it on the tank it gets no fuel! Do I need to take the tank off or is there something else I can try first? Thanks

Put 5gal of fresh gas in the tank and try it.
Leave the gas cap off......

Sounds like a fuel blockage either in the fuel line or tank itself.
You probably need to drop your tank and give it a clean out.
