Standard or automatic Transmission ? Mostly off road? Mostly on road? All on road? How far will it lay rubber in first gear?

Does it have nitrous or a parachute. Lol , your 86 like mentioned may have the Dana 44 which should be fine. If not the 20 can be built to accommodate. Fingers crossed for the 44
. The 20 cover is round like a bowl. The 44 is not. You will know when you see it.

Hey here's an idea. I had a '80 CJ5 that I put a 231 V6, in front of a T-18 and Dana 300 . Nothing special, new 31" tires and wheels, new paint, she looked GREAT. We were expecting our first child so I had to be mature and sold it. A week later the boys father called asking about the clutch and how I did the swap. It seems that the boy who bought the Jeep had his testosterone up and flowing after Football practice so he needed to show off for his friends. He put the Jeep in 4wd, reved her up and dumped the clutch expecting a spectacular burn out. What he got was a clutch disk with the center torn completely out ........... An expensive lesson, his dad wasn't happy.

Did you ever find out what rear you have now, and what broke?
What size tires are your running?
With wanting to race with a 350 you might want to think about a D60 rear.
And a different Transmission .

Ha ha haaaaa I love it when I that sort of certainty in a 17 year old. You will be surprised at how quickly that attitude can change when the tickets, tires and vehicle damage bills start piling up. Unless you spend a mountain of money modifying your ride, a normal vehicle, yes even those on the hot rod shows can't take the sort of abuse you are talking about. If you want to burn money your money on a hot rod, get something longer and a lot lower to the ground. It will last longer and be a whole lot safer.
Try to remember this, just because we are older, does not mean we don't know where our right foot is. Going fast is fun for all ages, with age comes scare tissue and a closer eye on the bank account.

I am 17 but I only do that stuff when it is safe and nobody is around, I also pay for my own gas and repairs. So it seems the consensus it the D60

No consensus, we need more info.
The questions below have already been asked but I'll list them again.
Do you have a AMC20 or Dana 44 ? It was already mentioned how to ID a 20 if your not sure post a pic?
What broke? depending on which axle you have there could be a less expensive upgrade compared to purchasing new axle.
What size tire?
What axle gearing?
We want to help you with your problem, but we need some questions answered to do so.

I agree with Posi There are a few choices for heavier rears but we need some answers first.
Along with what he asked we also need to know what width you want and how good your fab skills are, and how much money you want to spend.
