Blew the radiator on my 1985 CJ with AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Replacing this thing is turning into a bit of a saga. I ordered what was advertised as a direct OE replacement aluminum radiator, after it arrived and I tried installing it, I found that it wouldn't fit. Mounting holes didn't line up and there wasn't enough room between the rad and the cooling fan/fan clutch. The second radiator I ordered had mounting holes that lined up but still not enough room between cooling fan.. Anyone have a radiator that has worked for them as a direct replacement with stock fan and clutch?

Got mine from Napa, perfect fit.

Also, under $200 ;)

lol unfortunately not, they fit good

Not to hijack the thread, but...are you guys running a clutch on your fans?

I don't know that I have room for one

If you have a mechanical fan it would be a good thing to have the clutch, I ditched the mechanical fan and went with the dual Taurus fan set up on mine

I have those, too. Was trying to install a shroud per LG's suggestion, but didn't realize that the aftermarket fan blade diameter is too big, so I either need a smaller blade or a larger shroud. When I started looking up parts, it dawned on me that there's no clutch, and that maybe there should be.

Problem is, I had to put spacers between the mounting flange of the radiator and the inside of the grille to take up the space created by the width of the Taurus fans...if that makes sense. Not sure a clutch will fit

Don't know what to do now...

Let me ask you...since you went solely electric...did you go with the high amp alternator? I like the fans for backup, but they lug her down pretty good when they kick on.

I wired mine straight, instead of to the key...that may be part of it

I wired mine with a Hayden dual fan controller and had to make the mounting spacers just like you are talking, I haven’t done anything with the alternator yet, it currently runs good I’m not sure yet that my volt meter is even accurate or not yet

Take a reading with the lights on hi-beam, the wipers run'n and the heater blower on high and the cooling fans on.
It's not the volts-It's all about the AMPS.
