Rear axle upgrade

I know but it was either holes or that. And then they got cut in backwards anyways. My buddy cut out a 16 ga. template from my cardboard guide with his plasma table. I noticed they were facing the wrong way so he changed them in the computer. Six months later when I had him make any little changes, then cut it out of the 5/16" plate I had we mistakenly flipped them again. He forgot he already had flipped them months earlier! So they're right from the front but not the back. Oh well, most won't even see them, the rest won't realize that.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I am also looking to upgrade my axle. The rear axle appears to have broken, although I have not yet tore into it to verify what exactly.

Bottom line...I have a Dana 44 (narrow track). The Jeep is going to be used for moderate trails, nothing extreme. I plan to install an Aussie Locker During this repair.

1.Would a one piece axle shaft be optimal?
2 Recomended manufactures and those to avoid?

You say that you have a narrow trac Dana 44 are you sure it has 2 piece axles? I know they came both ways and is the pumpkin in the correct place for your application?

1.Would a one piece axle shaft be optimal? YES unless you want to track down the full float from Randy's Ring and Pinion $$$$$$$

2 Recomended manufactures and those to avoid? Moser is highly recommended it is a top tier company MADE IN AMERICA any of the Chinese found in the 4WD catalogs would be good ones TO AVOID

#Gert...appreciate the response.

I have not yet opened up the pumpkin to verify if it's alone or two piece axle. The axle shaft (driver's rear) will slide ~1/4 inch back and forth. I am not sure if it's a bearing or axle. I figure if I am in there go ahead and replace them with something stronger.

Weather permitting I will try and get into it this weekend.
