Not really the place for this question but really wasn’t sure where to post it. Half the air conditioning system has been cut out of my 85 CJ7 . The compressor remains. I’m assuming in order to removed the compressor I’ll just need to order the bracket for a non-a/c Jeep. Is this all I really need to do?

Is it running a serpentine belt?

Very easy to convert it into an air compressor, for tires etc.
All you need is a pressure switch and maybe a small holding tank with a drain.
I run 1/2" impact air-wrenches with mine.
Is your jeep a serpentine belt drive, or multiple v-belts?

So the belt running the air is also running something else?

Yes. The alternator if I’m thinking it correctly. (At work right now). I know I can measure and get a smaller belt but I was thinking of keeping the compressor now. And modifying it to use to fill tires and such. Need to check the compressor first. The system was chopped out for some reason.

If you wanted to remove the compressor, you can either just remove and get a smaller belt for the alternator (will need to measure for the belt) or you can remove the a/c bracket and get a non a/c alternator bracket and a non a/c belt.

But as LG said, I would keep it and use it for an air compressor. If it's mounted laying on it's side, I would stand it up. Then you just need some air line, a pressure switch, an on/off switch, and some hardware store fittings. I would also through in a oil separator if you want to air up tires. An air tank is nice too (I use my front bumper) but not completely necessary and also easy to add later if you want. Works great for air tools such as impact wrench and airing up tires.
