Front Right Brake Caliper sticking

A couple of months ago I installed a lock-right locker in the front Dana 30 on my CJ7 . Ever since I have had problems with the front right brake caliper dragging or locking up. If I drive it and slam the brakes several times I can usually get it to release but I just can't seem to figure out what is going on as it seems very random but frequent.

I am pretty sure the bearings are done right and to factory spec so I don't think it is that.

I have bled the brakes several times as I did end up with a leak at the master cylinder at the same time I did the locker and I originally thought that was the problem but that has been fixed for at least a month.

I also just replaced the entire caliper on the right hand side and still have the same issue.

It has a YJ master cylinder and brake booster but is using the stock brake proportioning valve.

I have read on other discussions that it could be the flexible brake line collapsing or the master cylinder gone bad. Just wanted to get others thoughts before I throw more parts at it.

Could it somehow be the locker?

Re: Front Right Brake Caliper sticking

If it was a bum MC, you'd have the same issues on both sides. Same thing if it were the PV.

Did your CJ come with disc brakes from the factory? I'm not sure about your year, but if they were originally drum all around, you'll need a PV for your brake setup. Disc/drum, disc/disc, and drum/drum PVs are all different from each other.

I suspect your hose is either collapsing, or you've got some sort of alignment issue at the caliper/rotor. Make sure your caliper bolts are torqued properly (and the caliper is sitting correctly) and the rotor spins true....you'll want a dial micrometer like they use to check ring and pinion work.

Yes it came with Disc brakes in the front originally.

I did remove the caliper bracket on the right side when I did the locker. I just removed the caliper on the left side as I did things a little smarter 2nd time around, so maybe that's it. I guess I'll tear it back down and make sure its all seated and torqued properly. Spinning the rotor with the wheel off seems like it is all aligned properly but of course that is when it's not having the issue.

Maybe I need to drive it around the yard until I feel the issue then pull the wheel to see the issue actually happening.

Probably wouldn't hurt to get new flex hoses too. They look fine but are old enough it wouldn't hurt.

Thanks and I'll post back if I ever figure it out. In the middle of an engine swap in another vehicle so it might be a bit.

Let us know how it works out.

So this problem seems to have mysteriously gone away the last few times I've gone off road. Here's hoping it was just air really stuck in the line but I suspect this will come back again and I will replace the lines and the tear the front hub back down.

Thanks again for those the chimed in as this was really stumping me.
